Hey fella's i have a stock 98 gsx...yes STOCK... i know wierd right...

anyways i have driven this car for like 4000 miles just fine and then my check engine light came one and i went up to the handy dandy autozone and checked my codes... it was my tps... well seeing how i am a marine and don't get paid until the 1st or 15th i didn't have the money to buy a new one right away... i was told it would run fine other than the rough idle with it broken...so he i am two days later and i can't build boost or it sputters and it putts around like a go-cart... any ideas...could the tps alone make it run like that
thanks guys...:barf:

id get a logger and use it to reset the position of the tps sensor. maybe it got loose and moved? Who knows just a thought. Good luck though.

Mine went bad awhile back. Instead of 15psi of boost I would only run 10psi. If I remember correctly when the TPS is bad the computer does something to the timing as a kind of safety so you dont run lean? Like it doesnt know the amount of fuel to deliver because it doesnt know exactly where the throttle is. Anyone tell me if Im right or way off? I believe that explains the performance drop. The sensor might not be bad, just adjusted.

The vfaq has a check and adjustment. Vfaq.com, Its under the intake section. I tried this adjustment with the battery disconnected and was unsure whether or not it worked because with the battery disconnected, the ecu reset. Performance went back to normal but that could have been because the ecu had yet to detect the problem again. I eventually just replaced it.

Get a service manual if you dont have one and it tells how to replace and adjust correctly. Its pretty simple.

hey thanks for your concern guys... i am going to buy a logger.....down the road.... but i'm about to deploy so it's kind of pointless... right now anyways.... so i've noticed after i had my boys take a look at it i let it idle and the idle is rough... it's not surging so much as it's misfiring really bad... like it's not combusting... and also i can smell raw fuel from the exhaust which brought me to that conclusion. could it be flooding because of the "Safety feature" that SAM was talking about???:banghead: i already changed my plugs i'm waiting for my new tps to come in as well
