I'm looking for some new tires for my 2g GSX. I loved how the toyo proxes 4 felt on my honda when I drive it all season. I was wondering if the Toyo proxes R1R would be better then the toyo proxes 4? Would think handle better, stick better, etc?

OEM rims 215/45/17

I didn't really noticed a difference between the two on my gst. I would just get the proxies 4 cause there cheaper

I hope the R1R's are better, the proxes 4 are horrible. They are noisy, slippery, and chunk. I guess if its a strictly all season type your looking for those are ok.

I had the R1R's on my daily driven GST. They were a good tire and gripped well in all kinds of weather, just too soft for my daily use and started to show wire before I got to experience them on the track.

I just replaced them with Sumitomo HTR Z3s.

Well, they are racing compound tires with tread wear of 140. So I wouldn't expect them to last long on the street. And they have proven to very good at handling courses. I am now curious how they perform at the drag street.

I used to use RA1, which was the only road race tire that was good at the drag strip, I wonder if R1R is similar in this way to the RA1?

The R1R is our street class "spec" tire here for Autocross.

The R1R's are MUCH better than the Proxes 4's as far as grip is concrened

I find it surprising just how LITTLE this tire is being used in US!

As for being considered "street tire", that entire label is a bunch of BS... 100 used to be the "street tire limit", so many tire manufacturers slappe "100" TWR on their race tires and called them "street tires".

Racing sanctioning biddies caught on to this and raised the limit to 140. So now there there a bunch of race tires rated "140". I can see this limit going up higher in a year or two... All this does, is forces us to buy new tires :)

BTW, I do believe that anyone serious about doing well at DSM Shootout AutoX, should be on R1Rs or similar, 140 TWR "street tires". ;)

I could spin a tad on launch with my proxies.

They handled better than I thought when I had them on a fwd car.

They didn't stop for crap thWTF!!n fwd.

AWD doesn't make you stop better. I guess you could argue the AWD brakes stop better but if you are already at the tire's limit I don't see how more pistons in your calipers are going to make a difference.

Well It could have just been my girl driving. We got into an accident with the proxies.Of course it was raining,But the pads were ceramic.

So girl driving or rain, one of the two. This was fwd again.
