Hey guys, I'm in a pickle right now only because I've got a brand new 18G(42lb per min) from FP that I haven't even put a mile on. The thing is I know I can run this turbo Hard in the 20-25 psi range on the track. But since I have PTE 780's I also know I can run a turbo as big as a 60-1(60lb per min <- like the name) at 15-20 psi. My question is Should I stick with the current setup or upgrade? Lag is not a problem (I actually like the anticipation of a big turbo) but since my displacement is only 2035cc's (.20) over stock and 8.5:1 compression I'm kind of discouraged from getting such a large turbo. I would appreciate all comments (pro/con) on this topic. I'f you need to see my vehicle profile, Please do so. I just updated it too.

Put the 18g on and see where it gets you. You already have it so why not?

these are questions you ask before you buy a turbo, not after.

anyways, I personally would go bigger, do you know if they will refund your money towards a larger turbo? I know the land between 16g's, 18g's, 19c's and such and larger turbos is somewhat lacking since the only real option you have is those bolt on garret turbos or a 20g (huge jump in price from the 16g imo) I would personally go with as big as you can afford, thats what I plan on doing once Im ready for the turbo I want to get (fp3575 for now, just wait til tomorrow and I change my mind again)

you need to specify your budget, overall plans for the car (street, track, hybrid) and power output before this can be answered easily. It sounds like you would be happier with a 60-1, but those will perform below "par" at low boost. If you read a lot of reviews on this site, people who are talking about larger turbos tend to use the terms, "this turbo really wakes up at x psi". this is because that is when the turbo becomes efficent, and flows a very high cfm (the point of getting a large turbo).

There are ways to improve the streetability with a large turbo. You already have a built motor with raised compression, so that will help right off the bat.

Your mods list is pretty big, these parts should also aid streetability and off boost driving: tubular manifold should help, lightweight flywheel, no balance shafts, keydiver chip, big exhaust. You got that covered.

I think you might have a problem with your 41" tall FMIC. :) It might be causing too much air drag. How do you see over it? :)

FP2 cams might suck out some low end power, but it's only a slight tradeoff, it's worth it IMO. You could use a bigger O2 housing, a ported EVO O2 housing is a nice upgrade.

With your mods list I'd go bigger, like a 60-1. Get the BB version if you're still worried about low end power.

funny you mention the FMIC he he LxWxH math learned me nuttin, I really didn't get a good look in it but it seems to be extruded Tube and fin not bar and plate, which kinda ticked me off. But I know the tube&fin is less restrictive than Bar&plate. I guess it's a mixed blessing I'll look around for a used 60-1 and try it out. If I like the performance on the street I'll order one from Rob at Forced Performance. Unless any of you guys could spare a used 60-1 BB or not For $350 then I'll look it over I'm not about to buy SSAutoCompressorhousingsFalloff turbos :D I'm not that desperate yet:D
