Torn ball joint

I have a torn lower ball joint so my question is can I just replace the ball joint or do I have to replace the whole arm?

You can replace just the balljoint with an aftermarket one, but mitsubishi only sells it as one piece already pressed into the control arm

You have to replace the whole arm, try JNZ tuning or Extreme PSI they have good prices on OEM stuff. I wouldn't take a chance on aftermarket parts that are that important. Some HAVE had good results but I would not take the chance. good luck

Rockauto.com, you can get a new one for like 27 dollars. Replaced my torn one with one of those and it has been solid ever since.

^^ if your worrying about the extra work load. its not time consuming, there's only 3 bolts in the arm and by the looks of the picture you have 2 of the 3 already out. and the ball joint it's self is the most PITA one of the three. pop out the 3rd underneath the chassis ( might have to give her a love tap or two ) , and the new one will slide right on in

Prothane sells ball joint boots in pairs. I threw a paint on my jeep and have yet to have a problem. They were like 13 bucks with tax I think.

When I did some front end work once, I made the mistake of using the ole pickle fork to separate ball joints. Ripped all the boots but the ball joints were fine. The two lower and one upper ball joints all have the same dust boot. For the sake of future searches, I'll list the OEM part number for those, later tonight when I get off work. You can pick them up at pretty much ANY Chrysler dealership also.

P/N for the dust boots is MB808555

Boots will work for upper and both lower ball joints, passenger/driver sides. Not sure about tie rod ends. And not sure if that works for ALL 2gs or not but for reference this info holds true on a 97 GSX

If you can get a separate one and press the old out and new it but it may be easier to just replace the whole arm.
