I'm rebuilding a stock motor and need to bore the block out .020 over... I can get a set of .020 over Topline pistons with rings for $100.... So, should I do it? I can't find any real feedback on that brand of piston for the 420a. Anyone had any experience or helpful feedback? If no, what brand should I go with? This is just a stock rebuild, nothing fancy.

I would get on ebay and get a set of npr pistons and rings. They are very high quality. Topline is an ok brand, but quality can be sub par sometimes.

yup the topline brands are just a little lesser quality metal used to make the pistons

Im using topline in my gst. Logged 31.4lbs/min last night @ 19lbs of boost. They also have a few 140+ mph runs on both a t25 on stock pressure and current 14b at 19lbs. Almost at 20k on rebuild. So far so good. No issues with them.

Got TopLines in my Spyder. I don't really know what their quality is but I'm guessing they could be lower quality than some based on price, but that's only an opinion. They look just as good as stock since they're both cast made. I bought forged Weiscos for my last DSM and loved those pistons. Didn't want to spend that kind of money on these since I only planned a stock-ish rebuild as well. Saving the higher dollar parts for the race engine I'll be building.

its stock, so anything will literally do. Depends on your budget. If you can afford niced, do it, if not, youll never know the differnce. The machine shop should take care of any MFG issues like burrs etc, so either way you should be fine for a stock rebuild.

I have used topline pistons, and other parts in the past.

If you are keeping to a "box stock" rebuild, they will be fine.

There are not many brands that I have not installed in some build or head in the past 20 years.

IIRC I want to say I used a full Topline engine kit in a Toyota 5SFE about 5 years ago, and some in a 22Re engine build about 3 years ago.

Topline pistons are not stock cr. They meet in the middle of 1g and 2g. I think they are all 8.3:1 for all the Turbo 4g63. 6 and 7 bolt.

Morpherex... Thats an intresting tidbit of info, and would be good to know if the topic was a 4g63, but this is on a 420a engine

Thanks for the input fellas. I went ahead with the topline pistons. I'm def staying away from the oil pump tho. My buddy had one that was of horrible quality, I posted that story over on 2gnt when it happened. Their oil pump is garbage IMO, from what I've seen first hand.....
