Iv seen that a lot of people put in wiseco or JE pistons with the CR of 8.8:1. I know this is a good ratio for adding turbos and what not but i was wondering if the 10.5:1 is an equally good ratio or better or worse? Just trying to figure out the differences. (for a 420a which after rebuild im planning on turbo)

10.5:1 your turbo tune, and tune in general will be even more critical to have perfect to keep from pre det.

A general rule of thumb, lower compression for boosted applications, raise for NA. As said above, 10.5 will work with boost, but need a dead on tune. and will need to be careful on how much boost you are running and the like

so safer to go with the 8.8:1 if im planning on turbo

The safer bet is to go with what most people have already done and works. A lot of people have tried to do a lot of things for 16 years so things like this are pretty dialed in. :)

Do some searching, not limited to here. Selecting a compression ratio is pretty basic knowledge when building a motor.

Additionally, if you are serious about learning, buy a couple books about engine performance and rebuilding.

:p just givin you a hard time man.

You will have better bottom end with the 10:1 pistons to make it more streetable when out of boost

if you plan on going turbo after, just get 8.8:1 or a 9:1 cr. 10.5, like said above, is going to need a dead on tune. and you won't be able to run as much boost. what type of fuel do you plan on using?
