thanks man just got a pair ebay shipped to door 30.00 :thumb:

no i didnt touch them they swell and then blow out.

then don't ever buy that brand again...

I got my sylv for 29 a pair at Peppy Boys with a $5 rebate.

Defiantely like em morethan the old "cool blues" but those were betterthan stockers.

Most of those "HyperWhite" lights are just fad items but the sylvs really do work.

The sockets may have loose terminals. Get replacements from PepAutoChiefGrandSchuckKragenZone and ....uh.... replace them. The 2G stock headlight sockets are made of particularly shitty flesh-colored plastic.

I saw this brand called GAE Auto Lighting on ebay but I'm not too sure which brand to go for. They had 8000k plazma xenon bulbs for $25. (12v 55w. 80w)I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this brand, I dont want to damage anything.

Avoid any product with any of these words on the label:
Plasma
Xenon
Ultra
Any word using "Z" for "S"
Kelvin
Hyper
Blue
Ice
Gold
HID
Xtreme
PIAA
Any bulb that's associated with a car brand, and any package that looks like a Transformer hatchling. They are all CRAP. Except for PIAA, which are just criminally expensive (they're Philips bulbs).

If you won't pay for Sylvania Silver*Stars, just stay with Philips, Bosch, OSRAM (makers of the Silver*Stars) or a simple no-name bulb without a flashy package and simple, pure, clear glass for the envelope.

I bought some of those blue bulbs off ebay for my 03 SER SpecV. They weren't that bright and burnt out after only a month of use. After that I bought some of the Silvania Silver Stars. They were extremely bright and clear, they didn't look as "blue", but they made the road in front of you bright as day, if your thinking about changing your bulbs for a "new look", or just to have better visibility at night, I would go with the silverstars.

i use streetglow or eurolites in all my cars. nice blue tint to them.
had one set in my celica for about a year before i changed to projectors and HIDs.

I don't think ANYONE could have summed it up better than that. :talon:

Alright guys, in a couple weeks i'm ordering my new 2Gb eclipse front bumper, and OEM 2Gb headlights... and I'll need some bulbs.

disclaimer: I do not want to put projectors on my car, I think some of them look good, but I'd just rather have the clean look and I love 2Gb OEM lights. And secondly, I am NOT asking how to get the "blue" colored headlights or any crap like that. I want better light output, not a cool color.

details: I plan to go HID in the future, but I don't have the money to waste on them any time soon so I'd just like to get nice bulbs for now. (yes, I want to have HID OEM lights :thumb: rare huh?) I just did a quick search on ebay for some bulbs and I'm looking at a set of 9005s and 9006s. The ad claims they are "hyper-whites" with no blueish hue, 4300k xenon, 100w output.

question: Is this set of bulbs a good choice for me to get keeping in mind what I said above. I want bright lights without going HID, and I'd rather them not be bright blue. They're 17 bucks or so shipped.

Thanks,
Chris

Here's what my front end conversion will look like by the time I'm done with it, possibly without the cf lip, but definately with the fmic... in time :D

I suggest Silverstars. They are white and bright. I use a set of 9005s for highbeams, 9006s for regular. However, the 9005s can also be fitted into the regular sockets with some grinding of the plastic tabs on the bulb. They still won't be blinding to oncoming traffic like this due to the nature of the housing. It was a huge upgrade from the factory bulbs.

1) HID - I have seen a few threads that say HID's are a bad idea on these cars, I'm not sure why (haven't had time to read on it) but I would search for it. I have never heard of OEM HID's before?

2) I would be very careful when it comes to exceeding the rated wattage of the stock bulbs, I'm sure they are around 60 watts or so. You run the risk of burning up your wiring with that high of power.

3) I would strongly recommend buying a set of Silverstars or they have a new version out that I haven't tried yet that is supposed to be even better. Check out sylvanias website for more info.

Good luck

thanks to both of you. depending on cost i'd rather buy a name brand straight from them rather than trust ebay ads, so if those sylvania 9005 and 9006s are a decent price that's what I'll do.

and as far as OEM HIDs... granted I haven't done a whole lot of research yet beause I don't want to get my hopes up haha, I thought your whole HID system had nothing to do with it's housing. In other words, my roommate has HIDs on his rsx, and they replaced his old bulbs in his OEM housings. So I am just assuming I can do the same thing and go HID in my OEM housings instead of swithing to projectors. But what you said about HIDs being bad for our cars... do you mean it wouldn't work well doing HID in my OEM housings because of how they are shaped, creating reflecion issues or something? I'm not sure I follow you on why it's a bad idea. Thanks for the advice and info though!

Chris

just checked out Slvania's website, and found that advanced auto sells their 9005s and 9006s for about $8 each, so I'd be looking at $32ish. Does that sound normal or are they available cheaper elsewhere?

oh ok, thanks for pointing that out. did you buy your silverstars directly from sylvania, or an advanced auto type store, or what?

any one had an experience with Luminics bulbs?
durability, brightness, over all change in look with this brand?
just thought I'd ask before I went and got a pair of them, and then they melt my wiring like my last no name ebay ones did ...

thanks

silverstars suck, i sell them all the time and compared to philips bulbs they are garbage. look into philips bulbs, the same company as philips magnavox, etc.

Try the Wagner "True View" there a crystal white and are compareable to the Silverstars at half the price. I run them on all my vehicles and they work awesome...

So I am just assuming I can do the same thing and go HID in my OEM housings instead of swithing to projectors.
Chris

HID can be done in a reflector housing. Mercedes, for instance, uses reflectors. HID relies on high quality optics to control the large amount of light being put out. Halogen headlights are not up to the task. If you are really set against projectors you would most likely need to mount a whole OEM HID reflector style headlight on your car. Which would require a lot of custom fabrication. Now if you just mean using your stock headlights and not some aftermarket jobs, then there is a FAQ out there somewhere about re-using your stock parts. But even that guy mounted proper HID projectors in his stock setup.

Silverstar has a new line of bulbs called Silverstar Ultras. I bought some 2 days ago and the light output is brighter and whiter. I pulled next to an Acura TSX with projector headlights and my headlights and his headlights looked the same on the ground - personally, I'm happy. Oh btw, these are used with new OEM 2Gb headlights that I bought from ebay.
