i am interested in buying a 95 gsx 5spd that i looked at recently, the only problem i have is that it has 150000 miles. do these engines hold up well with this amount of miles? if so will it be able to undergo any modifications like for example an evo3 16g on high boost? if there are parts (only in the engine) i need to critically replace, what are they? will i have to do anything more then a head gasket? in other words will the internals hold?
thanks

The best indicator of a motor's health is a leakdown test as well as a compression test. Getting these two numbers should tell you plenty about how much it will be able to handle. If both of these come back without good results, you may want to do some searches on bottom end rebuilds or consider another GSX depending on the cost.

Let us know what you find.

Well, I have a 1995 GST with 150,000 miles on it. I have 150 all across the board for compression, which is okay. I wouldn't recommend running really high pressure unless you plan on rebuilding your engine soon. But I plan on upgrading to a 14b soon with all the normal mods too. We'll see how mine holds up. Actually, I would be more worried about the tranny. Any eclipse with that much mileage is going to have a worn tranny. I temporarily fixed my problem by using synchromesh which makes a world of difference.

good luck
