Well my car either spun a rod bearing or crankwalked, i can got for the stroker kit and 6 bolt block with 14b turbo or drop in a 6-bolt and build it up with a t3/t4 turbo.

I am not that much into racing, just wanted to do something different, plus i plan to keep the car for another year really.

Should i build a stroker or not? Is it worth the extra $1500+ ???

Thanks!

if u spun a bearing it does not coast much more. casue your going to have to get a new crank any way so get a 4g64 egale rod and wisico pistions. as for if u should do it or not only u can decide if u want to do it or not. do some research and from your own opion on it.

thing is i'm afraid i'll get crankwalk since i am on a7-bolt engine, 2g.

I say stroke her. They like that.
The story is that the 7 bolt 2.4 cranks don't walk, call Magnus.

He is not using a 7 bolt 2.4L engine I think he would be turning his 7 bolt engine in to a 2.3L engine in which case he could still run the chance of crankwalking again.

And to do that he's using the 2.4 crank. :p The theory I read is that they screwed up the specs for the 7 bolt 4g63 cranks but the 2.4 cranks are golden. And that's why 7 bolt 2.4s dont walk. But I don't know 7 bolt motors like I do 6 bolts, so try calling someone who knows em better.

thread hijack...it's related...but still sorry....i lost my piston ring on #3 and i figured if i'm gonna bother pulling the bottom end...i might as well put forged shit back in. i was looking at the stroker option but the question i run into is what does it take to run that? mainly, does the block need to be notched for the crank (ie going from a 350 to a 383 chevy), and what do you do about fuel delivery? i would think the stock fuel maps don't do much for an extra .4 liters

The block has to be "clearanced" for the larger crank, the cyl have to be over bored slightly (as w/ most any rebuild) and the oil squirters have to be plugged. As far as fuel delivery, you're gonna need a piggy back (AFC) or better but the stock ECU does just fine because it calculates fuel delivery based on MAS readings. If you're engine draws in more air, it corrects for the right amout of fuel supply.

Personally, I'm running a 2.3L (well when I'm not pulling the tranny weekly I'm running it) with an Eprom chip for 650's and and SAFC II (that is zero'd out) and well, I don't think it could be tuned much better for running 21 psi on 92 octane with a 60-1 thats getting like 4-7 counts of knock and timing at the top of third ~19. When I get the tranny in I'll mess with the AFC a little to see if i can get it any better - but the stock ECU is more than capable of hadling the extra displacement.

As far as the original thread question. YES STROKE HER :D YOU WILL ONLY BE HAPPY WITH THE DESCION- However you'll want a far larger turbo then a 14b. If you absolutely can't go w/ a bigger turbo then forget it, it won't be worth your time or money. (but having a 60-1 hit 20 psi at 3600 is OMG plus you should see the look on your friend's faces when they say their 50 trim hits full boost at ~4000 and you tell them your larger turbo spools faster :thumb: )

I think it would be cool if someone that did 2.3 modified thier valve cover to say 2300 instead of 2000

Or kept it stock and put "1997" whawhawha!

I think it would be cool if your car wasnt 8 different colors

Just stroke it. Hell, if it's in your budget, go for a full 2.4L. They say there's no replacement for displacement, and they're right (at least for spooling a turbo) :thumb:

Why do you have to bring that up? That's the kind of shit that brings this forum down and gets threads locked. Lay off of the less fortunate people. I'm sure he'll get it painted soon, all one spiffy color.

I'm not less fortunate :) I just got a hell of a deal and can make some money on this baby once I do the body work and paint. I usually drive an 01 PT cruiser to work, thats nice and all..but it just don't have the balls(year before they offered turbo).

LoL Im just ####ing with ya. Besides one pointless post like someone spending time making a 2300 Valve cover for a stroker... deserves another. On a more serious note. Dont tell alot of people you drive a PT Cruiser :shhh: . With or without the turbo those cars are overpriced piles of shit.

Whatever

When it comes to not wanting a overblown SUV, or a mini van. a PT cruiser is quite a nice family vehical and wasn't that expensive.

You're going dump all that money into a car that you know you are just going to get rid of a year later? Do yourself a favor; scrap the car now and use the money for your new engine to get whatever it is you're wanting and start with a new project. Or just use a tiny fraction of that money to swap in a junkyard lump to get the car moving again and sell it.
