to buy or not to buy

As you know I'm in the process of rebuilding my 93 talon tsi (got a 92 motor with the 6 bolt no crank walk here) due to a premature timing belt failure. there's a guy selling a 93 tsi talon fwd and he wants 1200. He has multiple parts in it I need: the fmic, ecu, 20g turbo, 272 hks cams, synapse b.o.v., exhaust manifold, 2g MAF, evo 3 injectors, and a walboro 255. The car looks like its been a garage its entire life. Brand new tires (16"). BUT the catch is the car won't crank. The guys said "I was driving and it started skipping it got worse and worse then died and turned off. I replace the wires, plugs, and ignition coil, and it still won't crank. Then I did a compression test. Cylinder 1 has 0 compression 2 and 4 are low and about the same. And 3 is in spec. I don't feel like tearing it apart I just need it gone"

That's the only info he gave me

I asked him if he was dogging it when it died. He said no. He claims the motor was rebuilt before he got it and he only put 10k on it.

My first thought is maybe a blown head gasket.
But it could be anything from bent valves, hole in the piston, trashed piston rings, jumped timing maybe? What do you guys think is wrong with it? And would it be worth buying? My friend said he'd buy the car after I got all the parts off it I wanted for like 600.

I say buy the car and take what you need and sell it to your body. You end up with the parts you want/need and make some money back. Id go for it

If it has enough parts to make it worth your while, buy it!

You can part that thing out wih a quickness. Plus say its something minor you can fix it take the cams and fmic like you want and flip the car for more than what you bought it for. You said it looks like its been garaged Im guessing it real clean and clean cars are hard to find at that age.

yea buy it, you should be able to make all youre money back and have all your parts with a part out. but, you have to have time though.

Confirm there is no junky ebay stuff no junk ebay 20g if everything legit then should be ok. If you don't mind spending some money on it. I never belive what anyone says was done to a car so I always go over everything myself. If it is not up to your par then don't spend money on it and then have to dump more money into it when you could of just bought something good with all that extra money you wasted on this car. Good luck go check it out take pics get all the 411 you can.

Yep. Make sure the parts are legit and buy it. You'd easily spend more than $1200 getting all those parts, and you'll have lots extra this way.

No "should I buy this car" threads in the tech forums- half the time these threads become dead-ends where the original poster changes their mind altogether and never buys the car, and it also employs lots of guessing on the behalf of newbie members attempting to reach our minimum post requirement.
