I have a nearly stock (intake, recirc BOV, boost controller) '96 AWD Talon. Stock springs and struts. I just checked the tires, and rears are worn down almost to the wear bars, and the fronts look almost new. This is after about 25,000 miles on BFG Traction TAs (all season) in 215/55/16. Any ideas on why this would be? The rear wear is pretty even, with just a little more wear on the outsides of the tires. I do 95% highway driving (75 mph), and still only get 22-23 mpg. Any thoughts? Could a problem with the transfer case be causing this, or would you just assume the alignment?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

^^^ Agreed. You might want to rotate your tires more too. I usually rotate mine every second oil change (6,000 miles.) 25k is a long way to go without a rotation.

Your transfer case can't cause this. If it goes bad it doesn't wear out tires, it just locks up. You could have a worn out center VC but that probably wouldn't toast your rear tires given your driving pattern.

Alignment should be the culprit. You likely have too much toe at the rear. Sorry to hear you toasted a pair of tires. Hopefully an alignment will keep this from happening again.
