Hi ! I need to pick everyones head on what is the best tire pressure to run in my Kumho P225/45Z-17 tires. I do mostly highway driving back and forth to work 60miles a day at freeway speeds. A good base line pressure would be good for me to start with and then i can check for uneven wear and adjust from there :dsm:

it should say the maximum pressure on your tires somewhere.

You do not want to run the maximum pressure rated on the tire.. That is the pressure required to run the maximum rated load on the tire. Running that pressure is a good way to get irregular wear and to wear out a set of tires in a hurry. My recommendation is to look at what is on the door panel for your 2g and run a little higher than that for maximum gas mileage and handling. You could probably run as high as 5 PSI higher than what is reccomended because most auto manufacturers tell you to run lower pressures to help give a better ride and cover up some supsension issues. But by doing so you run the risk or irregular wear.. Run a few PSI higher and check your treadwear with a tread gauge every time you change your oil. (3000 Miles) If they are wearing even then your fine. (by the way this is for dailly driving, drag racing or autocrossing is a different story..)

(P.S. I work for Hankook Tire) :sneaky:

wow. i got owned. thanks a lot. jerk.

First off I wasn't trying to make you look bad just making sure correct information is getting out there. Second, this is a forum designed for people to discuss ideas and experiences if you cannot take someone telling you that they disagree then maybe you should not be on here.

However telling someone to run max inflation in their tires all the time is a bit out there WTF ... I am curious as to what reason or where you heard to do this? Maybe for autocross you would want to run 40-50 PSI to help keep the tire from rolling over onto the sidewall during hard cornering but this is a bad idea for someone for a daily driver putting lots of miles on it.

Note: talking with a few guys at work running that high of pressure MIGHT be helpful on the street only if you were running an ULTRA LOW profile tire.. like 30-35 series or lower. And only if he were in an enviroment with potholes and rough pavement, to help protect for wheel damage. However it is my personal belief that you probably shouldn't be driving with that low profile of a tire on the street anyway. With low pressures ride would still be shitty and you have a chance of damaging it and high pressures you have less of a chance of damaging it but ride is even shittier.

I'm guessing he was kidding about the jerk thing..don't take it so personal.

Thanks for the help, the door jam has 32 front and 29 rear for the stock tires ( P205/55R-16 ). My tires are a lower profile so when i run that psi, especially in the front , it looks like i have a flat. I will try 35 front and 32 rear and watch for uneven ware :)
