Yes I have been searching. I am not changing rims or anything. yes someday I will, but not now. I want to know what is the best deal and performance for stock gsx rims. yes, I know what the stock tire size is. my question is about better sizes and brands on the same rims. I have a 99 gsx, not lowered but plan on it when I get back from iraq(leaving sep. 13th). I plan on lowering 1.5-2 inches. camber will be adjusted as required. driving style is Street only, but I like to feel secure on twisty downhill roads. I appreciate any help.

225/45/17 is the widest you can go on a 6.5" width GSX rim. As for brand that is personal preference. Do you want them to last long? or last under a year but have amazing traction for that year? Since you said meant for street something along the lines of 280-340 treadwear should be good:

A few better performing tires:
BFgoodrich G-force KDW2
Kumho MX
Yoko AVS ES100

how much are you willing to spend?
i have Toyo Proxes4 on my galant and i love them, however since you're in cali you might not need 4 season tires.

this is why I love this site so much more than the local sites.. you guys are so helpful.
ok all are good points so I''ll start up top:

DSMSpyder99: i do like falken tires.. I have a lot of friends with them and they all love them. I would like them to last as I plan on evo 8 rims in about a year and a half.

illeffekt vr-4:I can spend in the range of 500-700, yeah I only need wet dry tires here.

TSIMonsteR: thanks but I already answered that.

thanks for helping me narrow down the list guys!

my personal choices are hankook ventus rs-2, falken azenis rt-615, bf goodrich kdw2, michelin pilot sport ps2.

the first two are autocross tires with about 200 treadwear. They are super grippy but are more a dry tire. and they are only a touch over $125 per tire. If it's only going to be a temporary tire until you get larger wheels, these are my top choices.

the kdw's are the mid range tire at $141. they offer a pretty decent dry and wet performance.

the ps2's are the top choice for wet and dry. they have 200 treadwear but seem to last a bit longer than we expected. they have the best wet traction of the three so far. but these are also the most expensive at around $200/tire.

those are some of the tires that me and a few friend have run on our cars (wrx, mr2 turbos, dsm) and those are my favorites. i neglected to mention the tires that were bad. feel free to toss out some that you are considering.

I have to say that for the price and "advertized performance" I do like a lot of the falken tires. I did see the rt-615s today!! wow those are awesome.
ok I am considering falken ziex 512, falken fk452, hankook ventus rs-2

so dsmspyder 225/45/17 is you recomended size?

forget the ziex 512, they are cheap but no where in compareson to the rt-615 or the rs-2.

Not saying the falken is a bad tire, but for the money (and they're usually similar) I'd step up to the Kuhmo MX... They grip like crazy, handle water well, last fairly long (My dad has them on his WRX, has about 20K/2 summers on the set and they still have a LOT of treadwear left, maybe halfway gone)

Compared to the falkens in which 20K and they are balder than george costanza.

I'm sorry, but I must disagree. MXs are as bad or worse than Azenis in then rain, at least when judged by autocrossing. If rain is an issue, you don't want a tire with huge shoulder-blocks. You want something like the Kumho SPT.

I chose to go with the falken azenis rt-615!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow they hang on to turns! I did go with the 225/45/R17 yeah, they look great and they eneded up being $122 each.. I didn't even have to pay for mounting and balanceing.(friend at pep boys hooked it up)

thanks for all the info guys! wish me luck overseas.
