Tips for pulling Jankyard Motors?

Going to pull a motor and head from a junkyard tomorrow. A G4CS (36k miles!) the other and a 2g head. Are there any particular tips/tricks/tools I should take? I'm taking a basic tool set along with all my metric sockets/wrenches + jack & stands.

One thing that I see being a time killer is getting the timing belt cover off to de tension the belt, it takes quite some time to do, is there any way around doing it?

Any tips helpful, I'm leaving in the morning,

Most junkyards don't allow jacks or stands. De tension the timing belt? Its a junkyard, take 2 seconds and cut the belt off.

I didn't know if cutting it would be unsafe or not. This is a backwoods place. Cars are out in a field, 3ft grass ect...

Take something battery powered with a good amount of torque. A good Dewalt drill and the attachments for sockets should speed things up. A breaker and pry bar if you got 'em would come in handy. Check Harbor Freight for said bars if you aren't equipped.

A friend is always good for removing larger items like blocks and transmissions. They should have wheel barrows or carts there for rental or loaner.

You're not going to have any problem cutting it and you don't want to trust a junkyard timing belt either. Drain fluids, cut the belt, remove the the head and pull the block. I would keep the cover on if in good shape, they're kind of pricey and hard to come by in good condition.

i remember when i got my motor from the junyard that they pulled for me. they cut all of the lines (ac, ps, rad hoses ect.) and undid the mounts then yanked it right out. then they unbolted the bellhousing and that was it.

Bring a weed eater. haha. Make sure you bring some wood boards or something to put your jacks and stands on. Don't want them sinking in and tipping.

A decent sized piece of cardboard or a heavy blanket since there's grass, you'll be under there at one point or another.

With the jack under the oil pan, you'll be able to access the timing cover bolts easier. After the accesory belts are out the way, the hardest timing cover bolts to get to are near the water pump. But even then it's not that hard. I too, would keep the cover in good shape. They are not cheap. New it's $100+ from our vendors and it's hard to even find anyone selling one used in the classifieds.

most junkyards will not let you pull a motor as it can leak fluids around here. also for insurance reasons around me they would pull the motor for you since you cant use a jack or jack stands or engine hoist.

Make sure when your pulling the cylinder head that you take pictures of the vacuum lines.Also be a good idea to tape and label the vacuum lines and wiring.Make sure you have hex bolt sockets for the head bolts.
