on my 92 galant, I connot get the distibutor to advance far enouth to come into time,I have had the timing in about ten different spots and get the same results, rough idle, lazy in low rpm, running realy rich burns your nose, idle screw barely responds to idle change

WHAT COULD BE WRONG!!!!!

Its a brand new motor -bored,stroked,balanced,ported,b/s removed, big valves, same cams and gears

what kind of fuel set up do you have? i.e. what size fuel pump, regulator-if any and what pressure is it set at if you do have one, tuning device (SAFC or MAFT), etc.

This would be helpfull info for us.

So...where is this distributor that you are moving? ;)

You should be moving the CAS to advance and retard the timing.

Set it at base timing 5* BTDC.

Your O2 sensor could be bad too.

there is a little wire u have to ground in order to time the motor; the motor runs great now.i have a walboro 225 (excuse the speeling) 550 injectors,no preasure gauge.what is a"CAS"?I grew up a v-8 person but times change.I will offer any info that I know and i would love any help. feel free to e-mail me with any questions or info; Im at 6000 feet above sea level. cars react different: In short, I need alot of help thanx

i know there is a ground wire needd so you can shoot base timing. I was being sarcastic about the distributor.

The CAS is the Cam Angle Sensor/Crank Angle Sensor-people call it different things. Do a search on it to learn about it, basically it advances and retards the timing same as a distributor since you are a v8 guy

If you can't move the CAS enough to get it in time, it has to be a fuel related problem. You said the idle is very choppy. Do you have a logger? What is your low trim if so?

Do you have a a/f gauge at least. This will tell you if you are really lean or really rich and point you in the right direction.

this may sound really dumb but it happened to me...make sure your cam timing isnt off one tooth...if you car runs right in mid to high end but garbage down low its most likely cam timing
