Timing my car

I obviously have a 94 2.0L NT Talon. I have Compcam stage 1 type Camshafts and AEM tru-Time adjustable camgears. I have completly rebuilt the engine from main and rod bearings, to rings, valves,springs, and everything in between. Runs great, just wondering how I should set up my timing and what are some good guidelines. I'm currently running everything stock with slightly advanced ignition timing and 89 octane fuel. Does the fuel effect timing?
Sorry bout all the questions. I'm just curiously interested.

fuel doesnt so much effect timing but the higher the octane the better protection you'll have against knocking. 93 and higher has a higher threshold which is why cars get tuned to certain pump gas. Theres no real safe way of saying what timing you should have without knowing the mods, to get a proper tune you would want to get on the dyno and have someone tune it.

Would you use 94 octane fuel in a non turbo talon? I have been since the rebuild but I hear it doesn't make a difference.

No thats just a waste of money, I can run 87 on my turbo eclipse all day without issues. Now if I decide I want to up the boost then higher octane is what I'll need because thats what its tuned for.

Your engine isn't being fed compressed air like the turbo engines are so the chances of you knocking are lessened. Depending on the state you live in and the altitude you could just run 87-89
