Hey we just did timing job on the 6 bolt motor and we can't seem to get the crankshaft sprocket to line up.

The cams.gears line up and tensioner is correct. The crankshaft sprocket area seems like if we turn it one tooth over it still won't line up and end up to the right of the mark.

Well here are some pictures.

The cam gears aren't right. They look right, but they are 1 tooth off. You need to pull the exhaust gear 1 tooth clockwise and roll the engine counter clockwise until they line up. From there clamp the belt on the cam gears and re-set the crank timing correctly. You are also missing a bolt in the oil pump.

make sure that the notches on the cam gears that are on the apposite side line up with the top of the cylinder head . that should make everything else line up properly.

You were right, i counted the teeth and it was off by one.

Thanks

not disagreeing with anyone of course but I still don't see how the cam marks aren't in line?

If you look at the second picture very closely, they are actually pointing very slightly upward, like this "/ \" instead of in a line, like so "- -".

+1.

Another good way to think about it is the cam marks need to be the closest two teeth on the gears. If the marks line up, but there are teeth (either above or below) with a smaller gap between them, then they are both a tooth off.

Red- Where the marks should be
White- Where the marks are
