Well I had a friend tell me my oil pump is leaking and was going to fix it, and so I bought water pump, hyrd. actuator, oil pump, oil pan gasket and now he can't do it.. so I called a garage and they said it actually might be a crank seal since I know its not the cams leaking and have both motor mounts (front & rear) and having both already they said the charge will be 500 - 600$ anybody know any place possible cheaper and trust worthy to do it with it being a interference motor I honestly don't want my head wiped out.

If I had the tools / time / and the knowledge I would, most common jobs I can do but this too complex for me as well as not having the tools for the job

Guys are recommending you do it yourself for a couple of reasons and one is the cost. Your question was that shop that quoted you overcharging? Not really. A shop has to charge whatever their hourly rate is and the anticipated time to do it. What that shop quoted you was not unreasonable. I'm sure if you looked you could find a shop to do it for less, but if they quote much lower, they probably don't know what the heck they're doing and do you really want to trust your car to a shop like that?

^+1 you get what you pay for buddy that is a normal quote for the pricing of doing it the tools youll require isnt alot a jack and jack stands some wrenches and rachets the timing belt tentioner tools and cam alignment tools if you even want to buy them arent alot of money you can also do the job without them but i suggest you get atleast 1 of the tools for the tentioner pully but if you want them all you can get them here STM: 90-99 DSM 4G63 ENGINE COMPONENTS just scroll all the way to the bottom youll see them

I paid 300$ for the full timing kit by ExtremePSI and 300$ for the labor at my local shop.

Id do it myself but I live at home still and my parents would not have me working on my car in our driveway LOL.

Well if you are set on having a shop do the work make sure to grab a phone book or use the internet and call around. You will likely get varying quotes.

Well weird part is this is the only garage out of all the calls I made that will even do the job on this car besides for a dealership but they want 1k - 1200 which is right for a dealership.

Thanks for the input, wish I could do it myself but no where near enough time nor do I think I want to mess with the timing with my luck I would blow it up.
