I have a 420A motor.
I've been told the timing belts are known to break on these cars and will cause a lot of damage. Is this true? and if so how many miles before it would be replaced?
Thanks.

Just because they suggest doing it every 60,000 miles I say do it every 50,000 or so. Play it safe. The last thing you want is to ruin your head. Also replace the timing belt components such as the idler pulley etc... The bearings in both my idler and my other pulley *(can't think of the name right now) went out and I almost ruined my head and belt. Luckily my car survived through it.
By the way I have a 95 Eagle Talon esi as well as my turbo dsm.

Replace it every 50-60K miles. And yes, if the belt breaks, lots of bad things will usually happen :)

use our kits, we use them in all of our customer cars -> http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/pro_street_timing_belt_kits/
Please note this specific kit shown is for a 4g63 or a generic picture for all applications. The recomendations are accurate though. 50-60K. Prostreet has been around for a while so they probably can get you the kit for the 420A as well.
Thanks,
Doug

Awesome. Thanks for all the help guys. My car has 100K on the motor. No idea if anything has been done with hte timing belt. I just got it 10K miles ago as a wreck reparable.
I want to replace my 420A motor this winter with a 4g63. But have no clue how much work it's going to be. it's ether that or turbo the 420A but it seems like there are better kits out there for the GST motors.

Stick with what you got, there is a lot of stuff out there for the 420a, and for the price of swapping a 4g63 in there you might as well buy an EVO.
Check out site like howellautomotive.com and others that have things for neon's and crysler motors, hahnracecraft and other vendors on this site have tons of stuff just for us. NOt to mention if you look over at 2gnt.com and you'll see what kinda numbers us 420a guys can throw up.

Thanks for the info. Guess i'll just rebuild this motor and turbo it.
I really want 250hp out of it. thats my goal.
I'm just really new to imports.

unless your like me having your timing belt split in half burning a hole in the timing cover and shreading half of the belt when I just rebuilt the head 30k ago along with new pump and belt..
