timing belt went now what ??

wel my timing belt went last night , and now i need to know what to do next, from everything that i have read on this the valves are bent , and its gonna be kinda expensive to repair. what i would like to know is , are valves bent for sure , is that something that happens for sure. can some one help with this? by the way i live in ny, orange county

It's very likely that your valves are bent. Were you idling or at speed when it snapped?

Do a compression test. If you find miserably low numbers, it's pretty much a given that you bent valves. There's also a chance that you scored your pistons.

If you're unsure, take it to a mechanic.

There is a chance that they are not bent depends on what postion the cam is at when it broke I'm going to say 25% there not bent I broke 3 timing belts didn't bend a valve until the fourth one. The was extremely lucky though so just put a timing belt on it see how it runs. If it runs like crap do a leak down test then pull the head.

be sure to get the timing correct when putting in a new belt!!

and if you hear any strange tapping noises, time to pull the head...

i just got off the phone with a few repair shops they are telling i may have to rebuild the engine. i know that works for mitsu service department im gonna give him a call and see what he says.if anyone else can help me with this please chime in. i was going about 40 miles a hour went it snapped.

more then likely you have a few bent valves.. pull the head and take a peek... then start crying.

how much would a job like this cost me?? crying already , this is my daily driver and the only car i have right now, i have a 113, 000 miles on it and dont wanna put much money in it at this point and time. and have something else go wrong

depends on the damage.. and if you're gonna do the job yourself... you can buy individual valves for like 10 bucks each or something like that.
