Ok my car is at 140k I am putting a new timing belt and water pump on the car do I need to do a tensioner? I called the dealership today and they said that the tensioner had been updated the new tensioner comes in a kit? he gave me my dealer cost at around 600$
anyone know anything about this? and should I update the tensioner? I need advice I need to change this belt asap

I don't know if it has ever been changed!

I don't know about update, but I guarantee I would change it just for the sake of changing it. I see more engines destroyed because someone didn't want to spend the 130.00 on a tensioner. Make absolutely sure it's in there. Also, change the water pump as it's driven by the timing belt. As a matter of fact, if you can afford the expenditure, change everything so you prevent having a disaster. These engines will bend valves if you throw the belt.

Good Luck

Ya I got everything but the tensioner when the guy at delray said 540 for the new kit I almost crapws in my pants

Has anyone done this conversion?

VIN 'Y' 2.0 DOHC 420A Timing Belt & Tensioner KIT

Any info on which way to go I am fairly sure I will use oem replacment at 170!

Oh ya should I just go ahead and the the head gasket while I got all this apart?

I am putting a turbo kit on the car as well as doing the belt water pump and other stuff :)

Everytime i change my timing belt i get a new tensioner/idler pulley. Id rather spend the extra few bucks and not have any surprises

i had an esi talon that 'supposedly' had the tensioner updated along with the water pump and belt. 8,000 miles after i bought the car the tensioner failed while driving on the interstate. i pulled the head and it really is a disaster when the tensioner and or belt goes. your best bet is to replace the tensioner before something bad happens.

p.s. - valve work isn't cheap :thumb:
