timing belt no tension

howdy all, been a while since my last post but basically i did my head gasket and timing belt and put everything back together and still had no tension in the belt.So i went to autozone and purchased a new tensioner thinking that would help.....it didnt so i tried another new timing belt thinking maybe something was off with the first one and still tooo much slack....i cant figure out what i need to do to get the excess slack out of the belt....help please

Are you tensioning the pulley properly?

i replaced the pulleys and the hydraulic tensioner and still have slack on the tensioner's side of the belt cause the cams to ski[ over the teeth of the belt

That's good that you replaced it, but do you know how to properly tension the tensioner pulley? It is the main source of tension. The hydraulic tensioner just takes up slack as the belt stretches.

A quick google search, vfaq, plymouthlaser.com a chilton or haynes manual, online factory service manual or autozone tech section will tell you all that you need to know.

You might need to have the special tool to tighten the pulley that has two small holes in it.
Here is the whole timing process, teardown to installation just for guidence. Step 28 and beyond is the part that pertains to your question.
