I was just wondering if i should check the bearings on my 7 bolt. Its the factory bottom end, and has 188k on it!? There are no signs of knock but i was just curious as to what you guys think.

Do you have a 7 bolt, engine in that 92 tsi, anyway it wouldnt hurt to change them out. I got a 6block
not knowing the condition and tore it down and had it rebuilt. Just be be on the safe side.

Damm thats a lot of miles... As long as you have checked your fluids and oil and took good care of it with a good maintainance you should be able to make it to 200,000 miles or even a lot more. If I was you Id rebuild it just to be safe ROFL

If it's running fine... why bother?

I say if it looks healthy with a compression test, there's no need to open her up.

Thats what i thought too but just curious.

The fact is i bought a 2g, just have to go pick it up this weekend. I was planning on running it for a while and was iffy bout the bottom end.

Balance shafts in the 4G63 are heavily loaded due to the imbalance of the shafts. The main bearings on my Talon were "like new" after 183,000 miles bathed in Mobile One while the balance shaft bearings were in bad condition. If you still have balance shafts installed the engine can self destruct even with good compression.

If you don't remove the balance shafts soon then at least replace the bearings.

Why not do it, soon think of the worst that could happen. Its like taking a chance not knowing the maintenance of a car or transmission, or engine. Its just that added peice of insurance that you know that has been done.

Personally, after spinning many 2g bearings

I'd take it apart, do a Mitsu Balance Shaft Elimination, get everything mic'd/polished and run full ACL tri metals. That combined with Mobil 1 Synthetic will handle all of the abuse you can throw at it. Unless of course you're exceeding the 7 bolt HP limits

All i plan on doing with the car is basic bolt-ons. Im going to use it for a d/d for now. But we all know how that goes with "basic bolts-ons" LOL. 1 thing leads to another then another and so the mods keeps continuing. But i dnt plan on pushing anymore than 300!
