Hey. Well i picked up a 99 gst spyder to fill my daily driver needs. Got her at 125k miles and since ive put in about 8k miles. I already had to do a clutch job because my spring on the clutch disk snapped. Fixed that issue. Now it snapped the timing belt while i was cruising around 25 to 30 mph. Got the car towed back to base and havnt touched it since. I know i probably have a couple bent valves if not all. So should i go ahead and replace the head with a different one or rebuild mine? And whats the best timing belt kit to go with? Mitsu oem? Or any other trusted parts??

It will almost always be cheaper to find a good used head, but with it comes uncertainty (could be warped, valves could have bad seats ect) A lot of people pull one and just sell it as-is so you never really know. But, It will also cost a lot at the machine shop to get work done. I would take it to go get looked at by your local machinist and to get a feel for what kind of numbers your looking at (Probably close to 300-500 in machine work plus parts depending on your machinist). For timing parts, I all OEM Mitsu stuff and a gates blue or mitsu belt.

Parts I reccomend:

Valves, Guides, and Lifters

Timing Parts

I would just rebuild the one you have. It will save you money in the long run.

Take it to a good local speed shop and have them do the work for you.

Now would be the time to look at doing any upgrades that you might want to.

You will need new valves, valve seals, head gasket, and timing belt kit at bare minimum.

As for good timing belt OEM, Gates, HKS are all great choices.

Upgrading Springs, lifters, cams, head studs are good things to consider upgrading while you are at this point!

heads arn't to bad as long as your patient, I was a little sketchy myself but everything you need to know is in the books. as long as your using proper parts clearances isn't really an issue. good luck with it man.
