Thus starts my 6 bolt built JDM motor conversion.

Jim, my friend had the same thing happen to him, he bought a jdm motor from a canadian supplier, the timing belt was ripped off, it was stuck on but ripped or snapped off. The head had bent valves, so he had to rebuild the head for another 500$, it was not worth it trying to ship it back to canda and get the money back sinc ehe'd have to pay for shipping plus a 20% restocking fee, but that engine you got there, it alsmost is a shame that you are taking it apart and building it up, because it looks like it was maticulously maintained. :thumb:

Yeah thats exactly what I thought, kind of a shame really because the motor is mint.

There are no real updated at this point. I'm aranging my pistons and rods and cams now. Once i have some parts there will be updates. This thread will take until spring next year to be fully completed as that is when the final swap will be taking place.

After that it's 26psi and spray for some 500+ whp hopefully. That should get me into easy 11's.

damn that thing is clean! I think its safe to say that the number written on the side of the cam cover is your mileage. Very nice find. Wish i could find something like that :talon:

Especially when it says "km" right next to it :p

Just wanted to subscribe to this thread and ask a stupid question. Which mag is HIC, I definately want to follow that article when it comes out.

Later,

Hey, That was a pretty cool article. I bought it a couple of months ago and decided that was something I need to do. I am trying to find a good place to get one from but, don't know who is a good idea to deal with. Any inputs would help. I want to know what company and how the experience was.

I plan to rebuild the thing as soon as I get out of the Marines and start school next year.
DSMJIM that car looks pretty clean! :thumb:

Damn man... defintaly nice find. I love your car.... I'm still on a 7-bolt... I have the money for the 6-bolt, just want to crap out the 7-bolt. Where did you grab that motor from and how much... I would like to grab a 6-bolt now so I can start throwing my cams and valvtrain in.

So I find this sticker on my timing belt cover. Could the motor possibly have 53,988km on it (about 35k miles) or is this some BS? Can anybody read Japanese and can tell me what that says?
That is 53,988km on it. Hopefully they got the info right off the car before they did that for you and not just made it up so it would be in the 30-60k mark.

I bought my JDM 6 bolt from www.soko.com in the Chicago land area. Good price and the engine was very clean compression is 165 across the board on a cold engine.

There is a good article in the VFAQ about where to buy these with tons of options listed. :thumb:

Hey Jim why did you go JDM if ## only going to tear it down and build up? Why didn't you get a core at a junkyard and build it up. Its a shame ## tearing that motor down.. good luck
He already built the motor. In fact, supposedly he sold the car. The date on those posts was from last year.

:)

How much did you buy it for and how long did it take for you to get it? My engine is cr@pping out on me not to mention showing signs of CW.

It was right around $1500.00 shipped, but dont quote me on that. It should be really close to that and I got the engine in 2 days. I got lucky and got a big 16g and yellow top 510cc injectors too. :D

I cant wait to see this buildup, my engine only had 37K on it after the rebuild last time and it was not even as clean as that 6bolt. Man when it comes to wrenching on a car the damn thing could be brand new and I would come out looking like I have not taken a bath in 3 years
