Throwing TPS Code

Ok here is the deal...my 98 GST is throwing a code and the guys at the dealership say its because my TPS is bad...car idled funny sometimes...I really dont have the money to replace it right now...all in all the answer I am looking for is....is it or is it not safe to drive my car? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean by the car idles funny?

It would idle surge...up to like 1400k or so then back down to normal idle when just idling...but then it threw that code immediatley after that and thats supposedly is what the dealership said the code threw...was a bad TPS...do you think its still safe to drive for a bit without a new TPS or should it stay in the garage until thats replaced?
