So today I tried with my friend to put OBX Throttle body spacer on my 2g NT and had problems. When I started the car RPM jumped up to like 5k and were about go higher. I shut the car off. We tried to loose the throttle cable, but it didn't help at all (little butterfly-thing in my throttle body didn't even open and RPM's still jumped up).

Car works just normal when I take off my throttle body spacer.

Now, I think it's because we didn't put gasket between spacer and throttle body, I'm not sure, need to check it tomorrow.

Any ideas please?

no gaskets = bad vacuum leak. That's probably your problem.

That's what I was thinking. Tomorrow I will try again and let you guys know. Thanks.

You do need the gasket, as mentioned already. Be sure to adjust the throttle after you install the spacer, as well, or the butterfly will be held open.

Ok, still doing it.

First, got in there gaskets. Same problem...

Maybe my throttle cable is too short?

Then I took throttle body spacer off and put everything back like it was before with new gasket on my throttle body, still same thing.

Finally car works normally without throttle body spacer and without gaskets on throttle body. WTF?! I don't get it, when I put there gaskets, my RPM's are high like crazy. With spacer its even worse.

I tried adjust the cable, didn't work.

I was thinking to adjust throttle body like you said, but I'm afraid that I will mess something up.

Did you look at the throttle blade when the cable is connected??? Is it holding the Throttle open? I would assume with the thicker spacer you will need to adjust the cable. The STOCK 420a throttle cable adjuster probably WONT have enough adjustment in it to account for the THICK spacer.

You will more than likely have to drill a new hols in the throttle cable adjuster plate.

Try to disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body and then start the car....see if it revs up like that.

There is a bracket behind the intake manifold that holds the throttle cable in place. This plate has slotted holes in it to adjust the cable slack. I though maybe the cable was holding the throttle open.

If the throttle blade is closed all the way and it still revs up. Then you have AIR leaking into the intake manifold after the throttle body. Could still be a leaking Throttle body gasket.

Did you remember to plug all of the vaccum lines back into the Throttle body and Intake mani?

I just unscrewed those 2 bolts on throttle body, then I just slided spacer in there with gaskets and put those screws back. I never touched any vaccum lines.

Maybe I did something wrong when putting the spacer.

Also, I had few screws left after I finished, here is the pic (X means what I had left in the box).

I don't know what those other parts are. But you will need to actually take the throttle body OFF and scrap the old gasket off. In the end you will need 2 Gaskets. One that came with your new spacer...then 1 OEM gasket to go in between the Intake and the throttle body. DO NOT RE-USE the old gasket.

Yes, I'm gonna try take the whole throttle body off and clean it from the old gasket.

Also, there is only 1 gasket on picture, but I got 2 with the spacer, and I did put them on both sides. But maybe like you say, there are some parts of old gasket on throttle body and air get there.

What kind of gains are there from this mod?

With full intake system you can gain like +1, 2 HP... Also it makes cool whistle sound when shifting LOL.

What did you do with your battery? Without the spacer I have problems fitting my intake in there and it has a huge gash from rubbing against the battery tie down...let alone adding another inch or whatever size it is.

Take it back apart and check the surface, as mentioned. Also go over all the vacuum lines around the TB. It's hard to work on something in that area with out using your hand for support. You easily could have accidentally knocked one loose.

Weird, my car makes a whistling sound between shifts and I don't have a spacer...

I wonder why... :DLOL

Car works perfectly fine without the spacer, problem starts when I'm trying to put the spacer on.

Simply just push battery a little bid.

In post 6 you said the problem was the same when you took the spacer off..

I highly doubt this will last long. The pipe is in no way touching the battery?

This works. True story. Just loosen up the battery and push it over in the tray and tighten it back down. I had to do that with one of my cars.

OP, let me know if you need me to stop down. Hit me up PM style with location/timing etc. Or you are welcome to come up here, in my pretty-well heated garage, LOL.

Yes with the gaskets on, even without spacer I had same problem. Then I took the gaskets out and just put everything back like it was stock before and it works:).

I think I might just scrap the old gaskets off my throttle body and then I will see if it works.

All the 420a cars I've seen that had to do this, the pipe eventually wears a hole into it from rubbing on the post of the battery (I know first-hand), which sticks out farther than the battery itself.

If the car runs fine without the spacer, I would say just leave it off then. If it's giving you this much headache and you said it only gives you a 1-2 hp increase, I would personally not even bother. That's an increase you can't even feel.

I had the same problem after changing the head, and on my car it was the IAC who broke. IAC could not close properly, and the idle was ranging between 3000-4500rpms.
Today, i changed the IAC, and finally, it's running great!

Check your Idle Air Control, which is fitted to your throttle body.
