So my mechanic called me yesterday and said that the car is idle surging pretty bad. I have a 95 TB on a 99 and he told me it was the TPS sensor. He was saying the computer can't recognize it or some shit. He said he called mitsubishi and that that TPS part # is different for my car. He also said he had the mitsubishi parts guy look up my VIN and my car is a mid year car therefore the TPS sensor being different? I may be mistaken, but aren't they interchangeable between 95-99? I want to ask before I buy a TPS sensor and then that's not the problem.

I would look up idle surge on the forum first and try to resolve it myself. I doubt it is the TPS sensor. Start with a boost leak test and go from there.

I agree. I would look into seeing if the throttle body flap is sticking. It could have build up inside it. That what I would check first.

Take out your BISS screw and check the o-ring, I changed everything I could to fix idle surge just to find out it was actually the BISS screw that was causing it all along.

I dont know about the compatability, except a 2g needs a 2g tps because of the idle swich,

But i do know that if the FIAV " fast idle air valve " in the throttle body is stuck open it will cause idle surge, simply pop out the freeze plug behind the thorttle body and screw the FIAV all the way shut, if the thing idles perfect after that youve solved your prolbem. You can also remove the coolant lines to the thorttle body if you do this. my car idles rock solid with this mod.

You will also notice that when the car is started cold, it will have a lower inital rpm, on a cold start with this mod expect your rpms to start out at 12-1300 rpm.
