throttle body coolant effects isc?

Today I got the dreaded surge and I am possitive it is the isc. No boost leaks and biss screw did not come loose. Throttle body was cleaned 2k ago with new seals. Started to get nice and cold and while driving I pressed the clutch in to slow down and it died. Did this about 20 times as I limped home. Then it would surge and then idle at 1800.

I can shut the car off and after it cools down it seems to come and go as it pleases. Took a look at the junk yard and all the 1gs a saw(4 total) has the throttle bodies missing

I do not have the coolant lines running through the body, since it is 50 degrees out, could this be the reason it is now surging? I just dont want to spend 130 on a new one, but I am sure I will have to.

Old post but the answer is YES, it is most likely the cause. If the coolant lines are not hooked up you will get idle surge, especially when it's cold out.

You will need to block off the FIAV (fast idle air valve) in order to regain your car's idle. Unfortunately, during cold starts (and on cold days) your car will idle like ass until it warms up. The FIAV has a wax pellet inside of it that, until melted by your cars coolant temp, will allow extra air into the engine to "idle up" the engine so it warms up faster. If you disconnect the lines, your car will idle high continuously until you block off the FIAV. You can buy block off plates at JMFab.
