Throttle bodies different between years???

Well the car has a new starter motor on it. I can't decide if the sound is gone yet. I think its better than it was, but it still sounds a little weird to me.

I also figured out the wiring issue. The CAS I had was the wrong one (had a female end instead of a male end). I got the correct one now. I also got the sensor I was missing that the one wire pluggs into on the throttle body. I should have everything, now I just need to assemble a few small things and see if it starts!

well, that sucks. :(

At least now you know where all your plugs go. Mark them before you swap in a new engine!

Well the #1 cylinder has 0psi of compression, but the other 3 cylinders DO have compression. I knew the timing wasn't off.

Right now it looks like I'm gonna be buying a engine from a junk yard for $450 and an engine hoist for $200 (I need one to pull engines from other cars too).

As soon as I have the old engine out I'm definitely gonna take the head off again and inspect to try and figure out what was wrong. It still makes a horrible noise turning over.

Well I got the new engine into the engine bay. I found that the motor I put in had slightly different engine mounts on it than the one I pulled out. (The one I put in came from a FWD car). I changed the front mount, those two were different. My question is, are the rear mounts different (FWD vs. AWD)?

Yeah the front and rear mounts are different on FWD and AWD cars. I had the wrong mounts in, and somehow through prying I actually got the tranny mount bolts all in. I finally found my problem, its been corrected now. The engine came out of a '90 like mine, I thought everything was gonna bolt up and I didn't have to worry. Looks like I forgot that the junk yard car was FWD and my car is AWD.

Somebody please, shoot me now.

Well first I'll tell one story so you know whats going on. I got everything together except the starter motor. I go to put that in last. The bolts physically won't go in! I found that the cover between the motor and tranny had somehow shifted, so thats why it was blocking the starter holes. Well I took the tranny mount off again, cut a drill bit shorter with my dremel tool, and then I was able to actually fit a drill down there and drill through the cover in those two spots where the bolts go through. Ok, so now the bolts can go through, and I get the threads started on the starter motor, however it won't suck up tight where its supposed to go. I figured that cover being shifted caused the problem. Ok, so now I take the intake manifold off so that I can see whats going on better. I finally get it off and yep, it interferes with how the starter motor bolts up. I took the dremel tool to that and cut the part of the cover off where the starter motor goes. I finally got the starter motor in, and I put the car back together.

Ok, so now I try to turn the motor over. HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND!!! AGAIN! Except this time is different than before. I think this might be because that cover inbetween the tranny and engine is shifted over and hitting the flywheel possibly. I just don't know how I'm gonna fix it short of dropping the tranny again. Before I cut that piece off around the starter motor to get that to work, I took out the bolts between the engine and tranny and tried hitting the cover with a hammer to shift it back, but it didn't budge. :(

Its just been one thing after another with this car, you guys don't even know, I haven't posted a lot of little issues I ended up figuring out and fixing myself. I think god is testing me or something.

Oh yeah my radiator leaks really bad now, I must have put a hole in it putting everything back together. Anybody know where I can get one cheap? None of the local junk yards have any radiators left in a turbo car.

Sorry man, my gun doesn't have that kind of range. You'll have to come over here so I can shoot you. I'm not sure how that plate could have shifted that bad. but I can only see pullin' the tranny back and seeing why the interference. Did you leave the bolts loose? That does suck. What you might want to do is pull the spark plugs and turn it over by hand to isolate the noise. Just a long shot. Hang in there (not by your neck), that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Things like this also allow us to learn (the hard way).
Good luck,
MB

The car is 100% assembeled right now.

Well I still have the engine hoist I borrowed. Maybe that will help me lower and raise the tranny easier. It was a bi*** before. All I had was a floor jack, and it took my brother and I 3 days to get the damn thing installed again.

Well I've got some bad news for ya man. The bolts that hold the starter spacer plate are behind the flywheel and are very tuff (if not impossible) to get to with the flywheel on. Taking the tranny out shouldnt be that big of a job though. Rather than lift it out try and push it into the passenger side wheel well. Then you can access the rear of the engine easily (flywheel side). That should save you some time. If you have hacked up that plate badly and need a new one (which is likely, they are pretty tempermental in my experience) give Mitsubishi grave yard a call. Fast shipping from those guys. Good luck with your work. I really feel for ya. Same thing happend to me.-Jon
