Those whom have painted a 2g ?'s

Okay heres the deal.I want to paint my 2g.I work at a bodyshop and we use dupont paint.Well all the leftover paint we dispose of and I have been taking every different color of black and pouring it into a quart can.Thats what I plan to use but the problem with that is there will be so many different kinds of flake if anything was to happen I could never match the color.i was thinking about mixing a gallon plus 1quart and saving the quart for just incase.Do you guys think that a gallon is enough to do the whole car??Thanks for any help.

If you're doing just the exterior and no jambs or engine bay, you should be able to do it with a gallon.

A gallon will do the outside. I'd get a gallon and a half if I was you. That way you know you have enough to fix anything. A quart won't get too much done if you mess more than 2 or 3 body panels up.

check out my build blog. i used a quart doing the entire front end of the car and the interior of the cab from the front of the rear seats forward (3 coats on the front and 2 coats inside) and i have about 3oz of paint left which i hope will be enough to the door jams and inner panels of the door. a gallon should be more than enough to do the exterior.

okay cool,thanks guys.I figured I could probably get away with using 3 quarts to do the whole thing but I wanted to br safe and get a gallon and a quart.Im going to just pour it all into 1 big container and get it all mixed up good.I wanted a metalic black but the price of the paint is crazy so im going to try this way and see what happens.I may do the door jambs but im not sure yet im not going to worry about thr bay or anything though.Im not that picky the bay will just stay gloss black but I may do the jams.I think the paint will look pretty cool though in the light you can see all kinds of diffefent colors of flake in it.I just have to wait until its time to clear the old cans again...a few more times.

when my car was done we used 3 quarts of paint and 3 quarts of clear, 3 coats of each on the car. only my jambs were done(hatch, doors) the bottom of the hood was just rattle caned. the interior was NOT painted at all and we had just enough to finish the car. hopefully that can help you some

okay thats good to know the only thing I will probably end up paying for is clear and a bit of primer for the spots that need body work.

Buy 2 gallons just to be on the safe side, My car took like 2 gallons but it was because of the color I painted it.

Alot depends on what kind of gun you are using. If you have an HVLP gun (which is probably what you are using since you work at a body shop) 3 quarts will be enough. When I painted my first 2g with an old school gun I used up 2 quarts real fast. I only painted the rear of the car and the doors. With my current HVLP gun and on my current 2g I used up almost 2 qts exactly on all the green then probably a pint to make the roof black. Same goes for my 1g.

Yeah I will be using a Hvlp thats good info.So you only used 2 quarts huh...I think I should be able to only mix up a gallon and have plenty leftover then.I just dont want to run out and have to repaint the whole thing because I wont be matching the color very easy...

what you are forgetting is activator with the paint. i use a 4:1 ratio and it gets me pretty far.

i am actually in the process of painting my own car right now and my buddy that owns the shop says he usually uses less then a gallon of base on a 2g, the saving black paint is a can of worms man there are probably 925644 different blacks in the nexa paint catalog we have

Yeah I know saving bkack paint is ghetto haha.I'm just saving the metalic blacks and mixing them all together to make 1 black that will have 92540 colors of metalic flake in it Ill see what happens.First I have to get the damn thing running haha
