Thinking about getting an eagle...

just to clarify, its my friends car..but all the work was done in my garage :p its a very strong car as far as engine wise..yeah the mileage is a little high but its been reringed and the entire head has been gone through, balance shafts removed, timeing belt blah blah and all the good stuff...its WAY faster than my car...the paint, yes has a little burn mark on the drivers side quarter...the clear is coming off..hes throwing in an extra hood, door, fender, seats, 17" rims and a bunch of other shit...its cool if you dont want it...but a little body work and itll be a nice damn car..then he has the 92....it could use some body work as well but its never been rodded, and its a 6/4 :D just FYI, last year i bought a 90 gst for $250, the guys said it didnt run and i was driving it the night i bought it...that engine is now in my talon....also, about 2 months ago, i bought a 90 TSi AWD for $250...if it wasnt for old gas and flat tires...i could have drove it home...there are good deals on turbo models out there, you just have to be patient and find someone that doesnt know what they have...and there are LOTS of those here in corn land

well, i guess let the truth be told. i think ive pretty much decided to get this talon, for all the reasons i stated earlier, plus one more very important reason.....thats right, insurance. It'd be awesome to have a turbo, no doubt about it, and id really like one. But being young like me, insurance really gets you in the butt. Its like they hear the word turbo and all of a sudden ur paying them a crapload. A crapload for me anyways, workin a part time job while goin to school. I could pay the insurance if i wanted to but then id always be short on cash. I hope some of you kno how that goes.

Anyways on the good side ill be getting a good reliable car, and hey, its a DSM. I can see an engine swap in the future as a possibility. Itd be a great summer project dont ya think? Or at least it will give me something to do, and ill learn a lot. So im sure ill be comin back here a lot for help and advice.

So sorry all you guys that told me "Don't get a 1g n/t!" Its basically all i need right now, and dont worry, it'll be a turbo eventually. All i gotta say is thx everyone for all the great advice and for helpin out the newbie. Peace!

im not sorry i got an NT. i like being able to tell if the person next to me is racing, instead of him just dissapearing in my mirrors every time... then again, id also like to know if the person next to me is racing or accelerating normally... ;)

Ya for real, this is my first DSM and its a n/t but i plan to just make this at fast as i can without turboing it, than after i'm done i'll sell it for a 2g TSI AWD! :talon:

If your worried about insurance cost then you probably would need to worry about getting premuim fuel all the time too, thats why I got a n/t. Premuim gas kills in socal as of lately.

Even though you say the car is flawless, alot of people on here could find a really nice turbo car for 3k or less. In my opinion, your stepdad is asking WAY too much for that, especially selling it to you. When you said it has a flawless body and "I'm getting it for a good deal" I figured, you know, something reasonable, maybe in the 1k + range, but 3000! Whoa! But anyways, this is off topic, but there is a z-24 running around here that is supercharged running 14's. Not bad but most DSM's around here can eat it up. Good luck though on whatever you choose :thumb: .

Hopefully i can shed some first hand light on this conversation. Before i got my Talon i was the owner of a 2000 Cavalier. Yeah, it was far from fast or sporty for the most part. It was reliable as hell. That thing could run for years and show no signs of wear....not to mention the gas milage was incredable and it cost about $10 less then it does to fill up my talon. (stupid preium gas ;) )

So for fun i started looking around at DSMs and found a guy selling a 91 Talon TSI about 20mins from my house. Mods were pretty extensive such as FMIC, 3in Turbo back, turbo timer, 17in racing rims w/ street drag radials, Greddy Type S bov w/ recirculator, ACT clutch....ETC.

The body has 100,000 miles on it and the motor was replaced with a 50,000k motor. and the tranny was just replaced with a lower milage one.

And i paid $2,000 for everything. Now i dunno about you but this car was a better trade off then my cavalier. I could never go back to N/T auto (like my cavi).

So my advice would be to shop around and sooner or later something worth while with show up! it did for me and this was only after about a month of looking.

You lucky bastard!

Why is everybody against getting a 1G N/T.. I had one about 5 years ago and loved it. It is the reason I bought my 2G. A 1G isn't drag racing fast but has some speed and is really fun to drive. I think I enjoyed driving it better than my 2G and even though it is N/T it has alot of pep and has beat the crap out of a few imports. Go for the car dude!! :thumb:
