Thinking about eliminating muffler...

i've read of open o2 set ups and no downpipe/exhaust...i thought that it would burn stuff in the engine bay too. I planned on buying a down pipe before i start running my car, but if i could just run an o2 housing then heck yeah! (not really, i would for awhile but it would be too loud.

5 days later and the clip is already down....repost somewhere please

I am thinking about my exhaust, although I am n/t right now, i will be turbo before spring.

I want a 3" downpipe down to the cat. Hiflow cat down to the back, at the back i am putting on my stock muffler, but I am going to gut it, take off all the piping from it, and reweld a 3" inlet, and 2 2" outlets, then have the outlets each go to a side of the back with chrome tips. I dont know if I should add a resonator or not, but I probably will.

My other option was to have the same setup, but instead of messing with the stock muffler, I would have a Y split of the exhaust piping after the rear wheels, then put dual 3">2" reducers and a 2" resonator on each side with chrome tips to the back.

I am trying to get as close to the srt4 sound as I could because I think its the nicest sounding car out there right now. At least in my area.

I do have a question though. At idle my car is nearly silent. At 2-3.5 rpms, It has a very deep rumbling exhaust noise that I love. Past 3.5 it goes downhill, like its breaking some kind of sound barrier and gets all retarded sounding, choppy, and cracking. I will try to get some sound footage, but the only method of recording is my phone and the mic on it sucks.

here we go; http://tinyurl.com/dxu5j

Sorry I changed files around and forgot to move it back.
Thats why FWD is bad with a DSM LOL

Thats Apexi catback, Apexi downpipe (no cat)

Sorta restrictive in some areas but 70% is 3".
If I could do it over I would go with an RNR turboback
where the o2 housing is apart of the downpipe

OK, everyone is saying exhausts sound great and what not, but How about POSTING SOUND clips? That would gr8ly help. I have 3" turbo back, catco highflow cat, and a magnaflow muffler. At idle its a lil burbles a lil, when cruising its quiet, and when smashing on the gas, it gets loud. I too would post a sound clip, the bad thing is that my car is down and out for about 1-2wks.

There are a pile of exhaust clips here:

I must be getting old, my RSR with cat is loud enough for me. :coy:

update: it was a boost leak right on the turbo outlet gasket. it was leaking so bad, i couldn't even build up 1 psi in the system using a bike pump!! poor turbo, its been working over time for all this time... and i'm still seeing full boost by 3500 rpm :D

on what turbo? 14b? 16g? if either of those 3500 is still to high. do another leak test. I have a evo3 16g and make 10psi by 2500rpm full boost @ 3k. LOL.. ya helps to have no leaks at the turbo outlet.. that musta been a HUGE leak.. next time RTV the hell outta that area :)
