thinking about a carbon fiber hood

I have a 98 GSX and thinking about a carbon fiber hood. are these considered rice? i do like the way they look...also are they functional in the sense of weight reduction? is it a big weight difference? I found some on ebay tell me what you think or what one would look best

personally i like the VIS Racing hood and if you want to get a carbon fibre hood, then do it. i in particular could care less about what people think about my car. i do things the way i want to and thats all that matters.

I have an OEM-style grade A carbon fiber hood (not installed). Anyway, there is a noticeable difference when it's installed vs. stock hood. I didn't get the exact weights but the carbon fiber hood weighs a lot less and helps with overall acceleration.

IMO they aren't rice. They look very good. But i would def. get the VIS hood because you know your getting quality that will last instead of the cheapo. It's really just a personal preference so do what you like and other people can just deal with it if they don't like it, it's your car afterall.

Go for it, I would follow the advice give and get a name brand like VIS, and personal preference is for the OEM look-but that's just opinion, it's your car. If you think it looks to rice, you can always paint it to match the car-essentially saving the weight and getting the performance with little more than hood pins giving away the hood. That being said, it's kind of sad to paint good CF, but again, it's your car.

i wouldn't get the no name one,not only because it might be of an inferior quality,but i just make it a habit of not buying from people who don't go thru the trouble of giving their own product a decent presentation,it says alot about the business,and that no name presentation is way to vauge and generalistic.If they don't care about selling their product,why should you care about buying it?I personally don't like the invader style hood.there's only one car i like it on on this site and thats this one:

Although I tend to agree with the others and think that these hoods are good looking, you must admit that bang-for-the-buck they're not worth it at all. If you're concerned with the weight reduction then you should just take that money and do some engine mods. Granted, a reduction in weight helps with acceleration as well as braking and cornering, but in my opinion you would enjoy a good 40+ hp by buying a new intake with that money more than you would getting the hood. I say this even though the hp does nothing for the braking or cornering. I guess it just depends on the person though. I focus on go before show, which is why I would say that. do you honestly think saving 35lbs is gonna REALLY help with acceleration? You wont be able to feel a damn thing. 99% of what you feel is gonna be in your head. Get the hood for the look of it, but unless your putting your car on a monster diet where every pound counts, the weight reduction you get from swapping hoods isnt gonna make a ton of difference. I can tell you this b/c i have a cf also, however mine is installed so i know for a fact you will not be able to feel any noticeable power

carbon fiber hoods are nice i perfer the oem style, but for $500+ i would be spending it some where else like upgrade turbo, dsm link, intercooler but thats just me . my buddy has one and it looks good but they crack easy.
