Think I need a new trans?

So I was driving the other day and the car jammed into fith gear. I knew the syncronizers were starting to go bad because it would pop out of gear in 4th and 5th. So since it jammed into gear, I pulled the transmission yesterday. When I pulled the trans I drained all the fluid and it was all gray. Not even a hint of red in it. It looked like a pan of liquid lead. Then, I went over and looked at the shaft were it comes out of the bell housing and it looks to have been banging on the little section that the throw out bearing. Its almost worn right through the wall, thats how much it was beating on it. Do you think the tranny is rebuildable or should I just go get a new/used one and if so, how much should I expect to pay? Im really a newb at these cars so if this is a goofy ? I am sorry

Hmm.. that sucks man, im in the same boat with my 5th gear popping out. Check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, they have a pretty decent selection of used and rebuilt trannys from about $600-1100.
