well i know i messed something up, and it was my fault, but i wanna know the easiest way to go about fixing this...
I started doing a burnout with the e-brake on, but it was weak, so i put it in second. Well, i freakin missed the gear, so i let off quick, put it into gear, and continued finish off my dunlops... This is all on video, which i'll throw up if anybody wants to see it, cause it was a good 15 second standstill burnout, then i blew it up the road in second for about 100 feet. And I was just playin, i wasn't being hard on it, it was only at like 4,500-5,000RPM, the car wasn't trying.
But!!! when I went up the road, i shifted from first to second casually, cause i played enough. It grinded on me. I tried again, did the same. I matched RPMs to where it should be in gear, and it shifted. So i tried a few different things, but, I definetly screwed up somethin with the second gear synchros.
So my questions:
What exactly will do that, the synchro, synchro springs, or what?
How hard is it to change that? keep in mind, i'm a good mechanic, don't mind gettin my hands dirty, and have a pretty good knowledge base on engines and mechanics. Just never had to take a tranny apart.
Would it be easier just to get another one?
Where can i find a FWD 2G 5 spd tranny at a decent price?
Do you know anybody that will do the repair with out raping me?
Could it be something else? The cable bushings maybe??
My trans has 84,000 miles on it. Don't really wanna toss it out, the rest of the gears are ok.
Just screwed 2nd. If i have to buy another tranny or take it to get it fixed, I don't mind, i just need a good reliable place, that knows what they are doing, and won't take forever fixing it.
