Thermostat? What the?

I recently bought a 91 NT Eclipse knowing that the engine compression is slightly lower than spec. Plans for a rebuild and turbo conversion are slowly coming along. I've been doing some work to it, and decided to replace the thermostat. Here is the old one I replaced... (sorry about the blurriness)... so where is the rest? I'm assuming some is in the engine... where do I go from here? Thanks.

wow it's missing it's internals....wow, just buy a new one at least u had one...i opened mine up and found nothing there competely gone or not installed

yeah... I'm worried about where those broken pieces have gone to.

if ur that worried...drain out the coolent system and see if u see any missing parts down the whole...u could just suck up the coolant that is in the thermostat housing

the farthest it probably could've gone is the radiator unless the parts were SO small that they could fit thru the small tubes going thru the radiator. just take off the hose and see if you can see anything. if not, maybe take off the lower hose and run a waterhose thru it to backflush it and get any parts out. or heck, just take out the radiator.

Well as it happens I flushed the system and replaced the radiator already, so.... hopefully my worries are over. Thanks!

Mine was just like that. It had rusted and cracked the tabs holding it together. Luckely the spring held it in place. But i still had to fish it out of the thermostat housing. This happens when a car sits for a while. The water starts to corode the metal and then it just shits the bed. They are cheap though 185* stock thermostat is $7.00 i think.
