Hey guys. I have a fully built 7bolt talon i picked up not long ago. Makes a little over 500 awhp and is on aem standalone v1 and was dyno-tuned professionally. I need to change the thermostat. I believe it is a 180 degree but am not sure. my question is WILL MY TUNE BE AFFECTED IN ANY WAY BY SWITCHING THERMOSTAT TYPES?

Your thermostat should have a number indicating the temperature on the bottom. OEM thermostats are 192F so buy a 180F or 192F from Mitsubishi (recommended) or get a 195F or 180F from an auto parts store (not recommended)

What makes you think the thermostat is bad? I'd suggest you use a thermometer and water in a pot and watch for it to open when it reaches the temperature stamped on the thermostat. Do this with the new one as well to make sure.

Different operating temperatures of the engine can affect a tune because hotter block = hotter air and vise versa. Hotter air is less dense then cold air after the intercooler. This between 180F or 192F or 195F is minor but worth noting to your tuner if you change the thermostat temperature.

Yea I would say defiantly check it in a pot of water and troubleshoot from there. I have had an issue before where the thermostat was good, compression test was good and pressure tested the cooling system and still lost coolant. Turned out to be my arp studs weren't torqued repeatedly enough LOL.
