On the newspaper today I read about a 3year old boy who shot and kill a 20year old on the chest accidently.. Just thought I'd point that out.

Also today some women drove her SUV into a store hurting two people pretty bad. I was there as they were taking them away in the ambulance. Just some food for thought.

From what I could find from a quick google search:

2003: "over 30,000 people are killed each year from guns" That was taken from an anti gun site so its not very accurate but considering where it comes from it probably means 30,001 people died from guns.

2004: 42,636 people died from car crashes. This is accurate.


So the point being if you didn't catch it, you can save more lives banning cars then banning guns (at least from what I could find)

EDIT: Just found this "Suicide is still the leading cause of firearm death in the U.S., representing 56% of total 2003 gun deaths nationwide (the most recent year for which data is available). In 2003, a total of 16,907 Americans took their own lives with firearms."

How many tens or hundreds of thousands were killed in the machete massacres in Rawanda? Or the genocides in Cambodia, or the Holocaust, or in Soviet Russia, etc. The most gun related killings are commited by governments, not by armed citizens. No matter how you slice it, gun control disarms victims.

Edit: That's not to say that I'm distrusting of governments, or our government. Hell, I work for the government. But the point is that governments have historically taken away firearms to protect the citizens, and then turned the guns on the citizens.

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at. I was saying if you take out the suicides the gun deaths drop dramatically. Rope deaths will probably go up but with out suicides your looking at 14,093 people died from guns while 42,636 people died from car crashes. Clearly guns aren't the biggest problem. I'm against most gun control.

I however am very against the limiting or removal of our (I'm not American but the same principal applies) right to bear arms.

So you are saying that something that is useful but causes more deaths is less of a problem then something that is less useful but causes less casualties?

And for how useful they both are can be debatble. There are other forms of transportion and ask someone who has faught off someone breaking into their house how useful guns are.

Yes something that is useful is instantaneously less problematic. Why? Because it has an actual REASON for being around. Okay sure, guns would be useful for defending your home from an invasion, but this isn't an everyday thing like driving to work. Most people are SURE to need a vehicle in their life when only a small percentage will NEED a weapon.

The usefulness of either is not debatable.
