NO BOOST LEAKS

I think this car would be most fun, the only thing i am unsure about is the cams. I don't know much about cams, but i would want ones that preform well using both 93 and e85. I would look to push as much boost without knocking on 93. I was thinking like 22-23psi (depending on intake and FMIC setup).

Then on e85 this thing would jump from a over 300awhp beast, to a 400+awhp MONSTER! Hopefully running close to 28-30 psi. I would want to lower timing a little, and use the boost for power. All in all this car is fun on many different levels. There are not that many 400+awhp 2.0l dsms hitting full boost by 3400rpms...:thumb:

The only thing I dont know checks out or not is the logic behind the external wastgate on e85. Would I just be able to put a 28psi (whatever bar) spring in the wastgate, or use a MBC, to reliably hold that psi on a 16g? I have heard of them welding it shut. I havent found many posts of people with a 16g, external gate, and e85. Would this be the first?

Wouldn't controlling high boost on a 16g be easier on an external wastgate?

yes because an external wg depending on size will flow more. You will overrun the 16g wg and get boost creap. Also 16g's dont flow much after 20 psi. so 28 psi will be hard without some porting and what not.

That is the magic of e85. You can run these turbos out of their efficeincy range. Some people have seen 30=psi utilizing e85.

I just am looking for someone that has controlled really high boost with an external gate. I want to make sure it would be preferred over doing internal wastgate hacks (shimming washers) to get them to put out more boost.

I've never heard of anyone being able to hold over 22-23psi on an e16g to redline. It can spike to 30+ but it will fall.

This is the main fourm i allude to when I think about the perfect e85 car...

Granted, it was FWD, so the AWD numbers are going to be a little bit lower, but im hoping the cams counteracts the drive train loss...

He mentions he only hold 24psi to redline, but im hoping the spike of 28psi is enough (with cams) to make the 400awhp+ number true.

Edit: i forgot that cams would cause the boost numbers to drop a litle, but its about flow right? It should flow the same.

yes its cheap and proven to work. i ran a synapse wg and had to send it back 5 times then i went back to tial

I have the BC272 cams and love them. No loss of low end or spoolup (still 27-2800rpms).

I wish I could get the kind of boost you are wishing to run -- 450hp would be possible. I have 22-23psi at peak hp.

Your numbers are exactly what i was looking for! Great Work!

Also, are you on the internal waste gate or not? Would external help? This is the kind of information im looking for.

Thank you and nice setup.

Creep won't be the issue at that point, but boost dropping because of the flapper blowing open will. A 17 psi WGA would help a good deal to combat this and of course an external would be even better.

Boost may drop from cams, but flow will increase, which is a very good thing and will aid in tapping the turbo out to its full potential. It will be an incredibly fun street car on e85 as jrohner probably already knows :p

ps Don't worry about boost, it will naturally fall with rpm if you are maxing the turbo out. Lbs/min will level off if you're doing it right :)
