About 10 days ago my car was totaled and I'm thinking of buying another one..I found this one on ebay and went to take a look at it because it's in Miami and I must say that I was really pleased..His mod list is really nice and the power is what I'm looking for. I also like the body (flawless) because of the stock presence..Let me know what you guys think and what you guys think it needs as far as the mods go.

"Please read everything before bidding. I will try to be as clear as possible. I have lost interest and need to sell! This is all wheel drive turbo automatic car. The body is in very good condition. no rust, just some little dings. The paint is good it just needs a good buffing. But you cant just drive this car home! The transmission is going out and does not shift into overdrive. But I do have a rebuilt transmission with a bad case that goes with it. The engine starts and runs fine, but it has some vacuum and boost leaks, that I have found but not fixed. It causes some idle and accelleration problems. The windshield is cracked and it needs tires. I drove it home about a year ago worked on it for a while and lost interest. If you have any questions feel free to email me and I will answer it as soon as possible."

I asked him some questions.. kinda sucks its auto transmission, I was just curious how hard/expensive it would be to convert it to a manual? or would repairing a auto be better/cheaper.

Automatic vs Manual will always be a debate... Automatics are great for 1/4 mile, manuals great for autocross... But becuase 99% of the people out there aren't professionals in either sport, it comes down to preference... Automatics generally have less horsepower in the top end and more torque in the low end, not really sure why...

Stock car vs stock car, 5 speed is faster, add a shift kit and a torque converter to the automatic, and the auto will win every time...

If you want a 5 speed, buy a 5 speed, I wouldn't recommend converting it... It wouldn't be worth the time/money... Get what you want and start from there... Instead of spending money and time troubleshooting a car that sounds like it has alot of problems, I would spend an extra $2000 for somthing that wasn't as big of a hassle... But all DSM's will have problems, it's in their nature :)

Unless you are good with cars and have alot of time on your hands... I would look into somthing that already runs right fromt he start :)

If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is. That car doesn't even sound like its that good, transmission work is always the most exspensive. Save your $500 and go buy DSM in better condition.

i have a quick shift kit and torque converter on automatic and i kill my buddies 97 tsi 5spd and we almost have exact same horsepower... so yea if u got a shift kit the fly!!! much more accuarte becuase not every one shifts perfect..so yea people say stick is good for racing and what not but u would be suprised how good automatic especially if u modify it..good luck with your car... if its dsm get it! automatic or manual don't matter... they both fly!! :talon: :dsm:

well- more details would definately help such as miles...fwd - awd???...and sense you said it is totally complete im sort of boggled about how the motor has no cams??

Like 95-Talontsi said... A banged up car with a non-functioning motor wouldn't be worth more than $500 to most...

Now if there were mods on the car like wheels, FMIC, turbo upgrade etc etc that could potentially add value to the car to induce someone to pay more...

However just going on what you have stated so far I would have to assume the $500 mark would be accurate for a non-running FWD Tsi.... Basically it's just a shell at this point because without cams your prospective buyer wouldn't be able to test the motor, transmission etc etc.

I have a 92 Eclipse GS 5spd, motor has 90k miles body has 185k, runs and drives needs alittle work body and mechanical, bad water pump, new tires on front. So what do you think I could get out of it?

I dont think you could get more then $1,000 for it, try to getting it running smoothly if you can do it without putting alot into it and then maybe you can find some kid to buy it for like 1200 maybe.

ya a dealer would give you 1000 and sell it for 2000 after they fix all the broken stuff. I bought my car for 3000 and it is a 91 TSi AWD, the dealer put a lot of work into it, ran perfect after a quick timing adjustment, no leaks, had a new turbo and everything. They prob. gave the guy that traded it in that 1000 dollar push pull drag deal most dealers will give.

call your local junk yard, no one else will buy a car without a working motor unless they are going to part it out, like the junk yard.

There is a 93 GS Auto for sale near me. Front tires are new, rear are very good, body is almost excellent but someone put black doors on it WTF . Sign says "runs good" but i have not even popped hood yet. Interior is very good to excellent (13 yrs old). Speedo says 165000. Decent loookin even with salad shooter wheel covers.
I have no other info. Asking $1000 OBO I would offer no more than $700 assuming it run good as stated.

$500 private party.

A dealer would give you $100 for it. Unless you were buying an expensiver ass car, in whiuch case they can give you $1000 for your crappy trade, and they just give you less of a dsicount on the sale price (so you still only get $100 in real money from it).

I'm sure you would rather sell it then trade it in though, trading a car in is usually just another way of helping to screw yourself.

Best bet is do a nice rattle can paint job (primer, black, then clear coat about $50-$60), fix the waterpump, do the tbelt and whatever else in there that needs done (using cheap parts, if I was gonna sell it I wouldn't be payin $400 in mitsu parts LOL). If you use cheap parts on the tbelt/waterpump (contitech belts, etc..), etc.. you can get it all for about $100. Oh and a set of 4 wheel covers ($25-35).

Then sell it as a complete ready to go car for $1000-$2000.

Is this car actually called the GS 16VDOHC? I thought there was also the GS with a 1.8 in that year.
