Yeah, I jumped on the first DSM I found for a decent price, next day I blew the motor and tranny ROFL

Id wait until you find that real nice one, for a decent price

Well, If i remember Correctly the EVO 3 would be a JDM swap, meaning that the motor in the car has Pretty low mileage (or did when installed) but id ask him to be more specific as far as bolt ons. All receipts is a good thing, but also run a carfax on the car and see what the history is like on the car. thats a decent price for a GST, id almost say thats to cheap for a modified car. Also, How many miles on the chassis? also see if in the records it shows Maintence/Bills or receipts for a Timing belt or water pump (depending on the Mileage)

It would be best if you could check the compression before you buy the car. That may be impractical though.

You almost can't go wrong for $1500 running car, but a cheaper car tipically means it is going to need a little work. I know money is tight, but I would try to find a different daily driver and keep the DSM for fun. Even if you decide to buy the DSM now, try to find a second car as a backup. Then you won't have to worry if the DSM gets fussy.

If the rings are good then there is a problem in the head or maybe the head gasket. I am not sure what rings (and the other bottom end work associated) might cost, but a head problem should be cheaper and the gasket cheaper yet. If the top end is the problem make sure the deck and the head are flat before puting it all back together. If someone else does the work for you they should know to do this.

Yeah I've been researching a lot on this site lately for the 1g turbo's and I really can't go wrong. I gave the guy a call last night and I'm gonna be buying it on Sunday (our only day neither of us are working).

If this does break then I'm back to my dad's minivan for a while LOL, which sucks because I commute to school everyday...and the ROTC guys are gonna rip on me LOL but for 1500 you're right, it's a good deal and it will sure beat my old 95 ESi.

I'm not sure if my mechanic would be able to check, I've done head work on my old talon but that was a 420a, I'll probably attempt it on this engine but have someone there helping me just in case. I just ordered the manual for it so I'm hoping to do all the work myself, and just call my nephew who is a mechanic if I need any help.
If worse comes to worse I can take it to the dealership and have them check the compression and see what's wrong with it.

But thanks for all your replies, I will soon be a new owner of a 91 gsx.

Congrats on the new car. If you did work on your 420A, you should be in good shape on the 4G63.

I try to avoid paying for overpriced labor at dealerships, it sounds like you do too. :thumb:

i personally would wait, if you dont get what you want everyday when you get in that car your gonna look at the automatic shifter and regret it. Besides, whats the point of an awd if you cant launch right?

Just my opinion though

Whats your definition of launching right? I own a GSX AUTO and im smoking 90% of the cars I go up against off the line. Why? Because I'm leaving the line with BOOST already. Try to do that with a 5-speed. I dont have anything against 5-speeds, hell if I had the choice of two cars one 5-speed and one auto, id take the 5 speed anyday, but I'm very satisfied with my auto.

BTW I used to own a 5 speed 96 eclipse n/t, and I have no regrets switching over to auto.

If you buy the auto, for the rest of the time you own it you'll probably regret you didn't wait. If you wait for a stick you'll probably be glad you did.

The drawbacks and advantages of racing an auto can be argued to death, but driving an auto isn't nearly as fun. Nuff said :)

135k miles isnt too bad for a car its age, heck the body of my car has 262,000 km on it. Then engine compartment looks fairly clean, if the timing belt, and headgasket are done there shouldn't be any real issues. That is of course as long as it still has good compression.

I would however suggest that you take a look at the car in person. That fender/door doesn't look right. It would be a good idea to personally inspect it for damage that might come from an accident.

Good luck with the car.

The car looks pretty clean all around. Hard thing about buying a car on ebay is you probably aerent going to drive to ohio to inspect it before bidding/winning it. The car looks to be in pretty good condition though. Engine bay is pretty damn clean as well as the interior (from what I can see in that fuzzy picture) A little rust is expected from a 12ve year old car. If you are not going to go look at it pre-bidding, at least CARFAX that mother to see what you can see. You could also ask him to email you more, bigger, clearer pics so you can get a better peek at things. Remember, its always a risk on ebay.

On another note, I drove to ohio to pick up my car too! I went rom Coal City, IL to Youngstown, Ohio. It was damn near pitsburgh. I always see DSMs comming out of Ohio....It must be in the water.

I asked pretty much the same question before I bought my GSX. It had 140k+ when I went to check it out. Other members were telling me the high mileage on their cars 180k, 200k, but it also depends on how this seller took care of it so do what the member before me said and check out that Talon. I drove 5 hours to check mine out and got a basic all-around from a shop plus a compression test. Even if you don't win this one keep searching on any automotive online trader you can find.:talon: :dsm:

I think the fender/door problem is somewhat of a common thing on the 1gb's. My car looks identical to that and has the same problem on the driver's side. I say it looks good if the bids don't go too high.

he said his reserve was set at 2300 i was like wow that sounds a tad high but i will see what i can do.

everything sounds pretty good, but you should ask about every thing about it. power steering, brakes, A/C etc. all the little stuff counts. let me tell you. : ) other than that stuff you should be good. but dont beat on it. it does have 135k on it.

This kid i went to high school with is selling his 97 GSX 55k orginal miles, kinda moded, dyoned at 318 awhp, he asking 7800, i can probaly get it for 7k,but i think thats way to cheap, he did burnout a lot at school, he replaced the tranny,so idk if its a good idea, and he still has stock injececotrs, the guy really isnt smart and not fimilar with dsm's. Could using the stock injects with all that HP mess anytihng up, i will probaly go look at it for the hell of it,just wanted to hear your input.,I think it would make a good winter beater

Burnout? AWD? Eh, I don't know, I remember how I treated cars in high school. You know more about it than us :p . Guess it depends on how much you want it.

 320 hp with stock 450s?

yup i saw the dyno sheet unless he has injecotrs, like i said he is very dumb
its not really a winter beater it looks nice but i have a 99 gsx w/ new paint, and this 97 is kinda dull, that why i would use it in winter

Na, I wouldn't get it. Doesnt' seem like he treated it correctly at all. Spend your money on something you can mod, not be sitting in the driveway because the previous owner was doing AWD burnouts in the hgh school parking lot.

what could be wrong with it, thats what i am asking....

What turbo is on it? If it's anything over a 14b then new injectors would be critical!!! Never run a car with not enough fuel.
