ok good, where can i get all those gaskets? and do they come in a set / kit?.. and as fro the 420a engines, what causes them to over heat (think i read that someone was havin overheating problems w ith their eclipse too)

you can probably get a head gasket kit, i dunno tho, any good auto store should have em tho, auto zone, advance auto parts, kentucky motors (koi).

and as for overheating, loss of coolant from a broken line, i think pure water will do it too, bad radiator, bad radiator fans, bad thermostat housing, and bad heater core. and if you notice signs of it overheating turn off car immediately, or could result in severe damage, ive once cracked 3 cylinders in the block of a car i owned before my dsm from a loss of coolant because the nipple where the hose enters the heater core was made of plastic and broke off. WTF

also with your new head id reccomend that you get a new idler pulley and new timing belt from a dealer, they are supposed to be replaced every 60k mi.

alright, and how much will that run me? oh and when she overheadted it i went out and looked at the car to see if i could find out what was wrong with ti (tryto get it to start) and when i looked at things i pulled out the sparkplug wires and there was oil/water in there (is that a blewn headgasket or a blewn head?)

yeah oil and water/coolant will mix when the head gasket blows out, also fuel will mix with the oil so change the oil before you start it. on the head gasket price im thinking around $20-30 but not for sure my head is out also so im not sure on gasket prices yet, im saving up money to get it rebuilt. 250 for complete rebuild and 3angle valve job. you can just call around for prices on the gaskets and stuff tho.

i know this sounds like a newb question, but i have a 92 plymouth laser awd turbo, it has a 6//4 combo with a manual trans. it has perfect red interior, and the exterior is white the paint is a lil oxidized on the back near the spoiler, but over all the rest of the paint on the car is in excellent shape. The car has 119k on it, a fresh transmission with 20k miles on it was installed from the mitsu dealer, by the previous owner, i have alot of reciepts for alot of the work done to the car, including the trans install.
The mods are alll in my profile, alot has been done to this car.

The reason im asking this question is because i got in an accident last night, i was going around a corner, and i didnt see the patch of dirt that caused me to spin out, i was going the speedlimit, but the patch of dirt totally caught me off gaurd, i ended up swerving back and forth and finally went into a dirt mound and the car came close to flipping over. the damaage on the car isnt to bad, but i think it might be enough for my insurance to total the car. the KBB value on this car is pretty low so i don twant to get ripped off, i searched on autotrader but could not find any cars like mine, so i cant really compare,

i want to know how much is my car worth, with the mods in my profile including emanage?

98,000 miles 95 AWD Talon. Mostly stock. Blitz TT, 2.5" o2 back exhaust, leather, sun roof, spoiler was changed to a eclipse whale spoiler.

t25 Turbo is held on by 2 bolts diaginal from each other. Car was broken into while on the sales lot to steal the TT, and intercooler piping. Speaker grill for pass. side door is missing. Black paint job turning greyish white on roof. Pass side door doesnt line up with the front fender leading me to believe its been wrecked before. Clutch is lighter than any clutch I've ever felt leading me to believe its about to go out.

How much do you guys think I should offer for it?

2 years ago, I bought my 95 GST for $2,500 with a tripple guage pod, boost, oil press, a/f techno guages installed with a clarion cd player, cloth interior, turbo xs bov, 95,000 miles off the Toyota of Wilmington dealership lot.
Problems with it were the PVC valve was bad, the stock boost controller was bad, and the clutch went out 2 months later.

WTF WTF WTF ....you mean theres absolutely NO side door at all? isnt that a saftely hazzard?

How much do you guys think I should offer for it?

well if the people dont mind no side door and all the rest of the stuff you listed...i say not much...try doing a lookup on kelly blue book.com or something...but from an actual person or with listing those details....i dont think you will get much at all...honestly

Well, I kbb'd it and.....

Poor condition = (no value)
Fair condition = $3400

My advise would be to meet in the middle and offer them $1500-$2000. Just point out ever little defect and flaw on it. Make it sound like it's a horrible and unsafe vehicle; maybe you can get it for cheaper than $1500.......

PS - ^^^ This is all assuming the engine is in tip-top shape, the trans isnt grinding, clear title, etc....

Morbid, perhaps you were sleepy when you posted that, I was talking about the speaker grill missing, not the entire door :)

I agree with 99gst_racer about the price though. The sales man said over the phone he was asking for $7,000. I found KBB for retail to be $6,000. I just hope this guy will play by my rules and take less than $2,500 :sosad:

Ok well screw that talon. I feel bad for the kid thats going to be buying it for 6,800$ in 2 days. I test drove it today for a total of 10 minutes. Started it up, it idled at 2,300rpm, I turned the BISS screw all the way in to get it down to stock. Took it out, drove it normal til it warmed up, then really got on it. It got up to 5k rpm and started to feel bad, especially for a t25. I've felt a stock awd and this felt slower. Well I decided to head towards i-40 to get on it, and I didnt even get to the interstate before I started blowing masses of smoke out the tail pipe, and I mean enuf smoke to lose the cops if they were chasing me. I pulled over to the side of the road and it was spraying oil all over the driver side of the motor. I said #### that, took it back to the dealership and told the guy that I came here with intentions of buying it for at the most 3,000$ (When in my head I was thinking $1,500) and I'd still buy it if he'd sell it for that. The guy looked at me like I was some punk ass little kid and told me that someone else my age was going to buy it for $6,800, and invest another $4,500 into it on the paint job. Sounded like some idiot ricer to me. Well #### that GSX. If anyone here in Wilm, NC sees it from "Make and Offer Auto" I feel bad for ya if your the one who bought that POS for that price. It needs at least $5,000 total in just motor and suspension work.

On the other hand, thanks for the replies guys! I'm still searching for an awd in NC, or myrtle SC.

Thats why I hate most dealerships. They want to rip people off cause someone told them that our cars are "what alot of kids want and will pay good money for"

I can't tell you how many times I see the 2nd gens going for 4-6k more then they're worth..

And they're in crap condition.

drugs are bad ...mmk!

So I finally believe I have found the DSM I have always wanted...For almost 2 years I have researched DSM's and about a few month's ago I decided I was going to start looking to buy my dream car. About a week ago I found it on DSMTRADER, a blue-tan, 90 Talon tsi Awd. Today I went to check it out and I believe that I will be buying the car this tuesday. No matter what you guys think, I will probably end up buying the car anyway, but I just wanted to know how you guys felt about my decision. The car is modded and only has 92K original body modifications..After seeing the car, it seems to have:

-apexi intake
-3" exhaust w/ a hi-flow cat
-mbc (set to 8psi, seems low)
-6 Autometer gauges (boost, egt, oil, a/f, etc)
-2g mani
-new spark flug wires, maybe spark plugs too (more of a maintenance thing but w/e)
- Blitz BOV
-Big 16g turbo -ported and clipped
-full maintenance job done including t-belt, water pump,( major maintenace things)
-SAFC2 (apparently tuned)
-560cc Injectors
- 4-Bolt rear end
-stage 2 clutch (unknown brand?)
-He's throwing in a big FMIC core that I plan on buying pipes for
- Also has new 16" wheels and tires (not performance but who cares)

Those are all the major performance mods I can think of right now...I didn't realize till I got there that there were some bad things:

-oil pan as a very small leak (says it's an easy fix)
-minor body damage things (little scratches, 2 tiny rust sports)
-Problem w/ head unit so not working; Full aftermarket stereo w/ sony headunit, new subs, tweeters,
-in need of some new brake pads
-New starter, but when I drove in it, it had small problems actually starting up
-Has aftermarket steering wheel so no airbag
-needs an oil change
- no heat shields or t-belt/spark plug wire covers
- Pop-up headlights don't work

Besides the maintenance and stereo problems, all of the other things are problems that might bother me, Im not sure, such as NO A/C, no airbag, no Cruise control...Do you think I can live w/out the A.C and CC ..I might put in a 1g stock wheel w/ airbags...The trans is great, the motor sounds healthy but Im worried about the fact that the BOV isn't re-circulated and that there is no aftermarket fuel pump...At least the boost is set low...The car pulled very hard and I was very impressed with it...The maintenance seems like it would cost very little money, and the mods seem to be worth a couple grand, so I factored that in and b.c of that I think the price is fair.

What do you guys think...Is a modded 1G AWD w. only 92K miles and a 6/4 bolt worth thr 4K I am paying...I think it is worth it but it is a big investment...please tell me $4000 is worth it b.c if it's not then I will feel bad...The price is not negotiable

Thanks

I dont know dude, the car was defintly beat on, and it has a ton of mods a ton of things to go wrong, it deifntly sounds worth it, assuming it wont break down and evrything thst wrong with it is an easy fix. I just would feel terrible if i payed 4 grand for something and it broke, i would have a mechanic look at it deifntly bring it to one, thats what i would do, best choice alright good luck

Yeah Im taking it to a mechanic tues. when I see him and I am going to make sure they do a compression test before I give up the cash. I can deal with the body issue's considering it's an old car and it looks kinda sleeper, but I am very worried about forking over the cash and then the Headgasket blowing or even worse, bottom end damage.

Any other opinions..

the only way I would buy it is if he gave you 50% discount, because you got at least 2G's in maintanance.Don't mean to burts your bubble, but I boughtmine for $2500 with a flawless body(which I fu@ked up in 2 months),almost stock, but everything worked on the car but the fig light switch,it came with aftermarket wheels and everything. You wanna stay away from electrical problems, because even though it may be 3 bucks in materials to fix them, the amount of labor it cost to find the problem can be worth just as much as the car.My suggestion is to keep looking and try to find one that's closer to stock.
P.S. the guy i bought it from said the engine got rebuilt 40k miles ago,but when i did a comprssion check, i got somewhat tired numbers. She doesn't smoke or anything, but I'm sur the engine wont last 2 more years.

Well, even tho their are things wrong, I won't be fixing everything...I have no plans to repair the pop-ups or body damages anytime soon...Right away tho I plan on fixing up the stereo, buying synthetic oil, brake pads, and the t-belt cover...Do you guys think I can live w/out the pop-ups or a/c??? any other opinions on price..seems fair tho based on mods
