Just my opinion, but I'm guessing you're going to run into more problems than you think with that car, just by what you've told us...

Allright this is what it is. 1990 Eagle talon TSi.
-141k
-FWD
-manual
-has some rust, all the front and rear fenders
-interior is pretty good
-needs back tires
-needs water pump

I talked him down to 500 bucks, I would have to tow it since the water pump makes it overheat.

What u guys think for a beater or a reseller?

I'd jump on it if it was closer to me as long as the thing would pass an inspection. Yeah sounds like a deal to me.

It's only about 20 miles from my house so I am going to two it with my dad's truck and our car dolly. I am pretty much for sure going to get it. Anybody interested in it after I fix it? :sneaky:

There is a 98' gst with sunroof for sale that only has 31000 miles and look to be in beautiful shape that is around $9000 is it worth it? Are the later 7bolts less likely to crankwalk? Also, I had a friend with a ~99ish gst and his tranny went on him at around ~25000 miles. How often does that happen?

id half to say i would give 9 for it w/ that many miles most will say no because there alil by est w/ the awd....but as for the crank walk 7 bolts are more likely to crank walk then a 6 bolt [#]but it still isn't very likely it will happen...[/#]...

any way if it sexy and runs good id go for it..

i just bought my 98 gst w/ 74k miles on it for 9000. i would buy it if i was you. your friend's gst must have been ragged on pretty hard by the previous owner to have his tranny go at 25000 miles either that or your friend was ragging on it himself

I would definitely go for that. I just bought a dsm this month and in my looking if i would of found a gst with that low miles for only 9k i would of bought it. My friend is selling his gsx and he wants 10,500 for it and it has over 90k. Definitely buy it.. However i would first get a compression test done on it and also check the turbo for shaft play. :dsm:

Hey, a guy at my work has a friend that has a 92 Tsi AWD for sale that I'm looking at getting. It has less than 70k miles on a replaced motor. As far as mods, it has a Big 16g, intake, exhaust, FMIC i believe, turbo timer, different BOV. I'm not 100% sure on all the mods, the only ones I know for sure are the Big 16g, exhaust and turbo timer. I know that it has a lot more, I just don't know exactly what they all are. I assume he has some fuel mods too and a boost controller. There are problems with it though, he said the air/fuel ratio needs to be tuned, so I'm assuming he doesn't have any tuning done to it at all. Also he told my manager that he thinks the tranny is bad. But I guess it could just be the clutch too. Anyways, he might take payments and I told my manager to ask him if $2,000 was a reasonable price to pay after all payments. Around here you're lucky to get a 1st gen turbo'd DSM for $3,000 stock and running. I figure on getting DSMlink for tuning and then having the tranny rebuilt and replacing the clutch. Unless it's just the clutch, or maybe just needs the fluid changed. He's not a mechanic so it might be a simple fix. I know that when i got my 92 n/t it used to grind if you threw it into 3rd hard, and always would grind downshifting into 2nd but after I replaced the fluid with synchromesh all the grinding went away. I figure if I attempt to replace the tranny and clutch myself and tune it myself with DSMlink I'll be looking at around $2,000 more in repairs thus bringing the total price paid for the car to be around $4,000 for what I've been told by my manager should be a 12 second car. Does this seem reasonable? I'm going to find out if he'll take payments on Thursday when I go back to work and then probably take a look at it and have a mechanic look it over too. I've been told that the BOV is really freakin loud, so I wonder if maybe he's venting and causing some of the stuttering problems that my manager said it has sometimes. Stuttering might be a boost leak too I guess? Hopefully I can test drive it here soon and let you all know what's up so you can give me a better idea of what I should pay for it.

thanks guys, It is at a small dealer and comes with a warranty. The carfax is included in the ad and it says it has no record of anything bad and only titled to one person. This could be sweet it would only be like 225-250 a month for 3 yrs. That would be sweet considering my 03' srt4 payment was twice that in every way.

they had a 1999 GSX with 19,000 miles on it at a Chevy dealer and they tried selling it for $22,000. I told the guy to start working me off because in 99' you could have bought the car for about $25,000 brand new.
If i were you, buy the car and dont beat on it. it will last you forever. its a really good find.

OK, well I had a 96 gst awhile back doing 11's on street tires. It was hell, problem after problem.grrrr...then it got stolen after i fixed it. go figure....anyway, i found a 99 GSX with 67k and pretty much stock, he has IC pipes and a BOV, thats all thats done. He wanted 14.5 but i tried to haggle and he said 14 was as low as he could go. It blue books at 10,xxx private party and 12,xxx dealer. I know it has street value tho like the Integra GSR or Supra. Neither of those sell at what they book for....what do u guys think?

Whoa, this thread is like 3 years old OMG . I just purchased a 95 GSX with 94k miles, apex fmic, hard intercooler pipes, full 3" exhaust, big t28, injectors, safc, etc, with a bad tranny for $3500. I'm currently getting a shep rebuild for my big plans :thumb: .

hey i bought a 1991 talon n/t from my friend for 700. now some kid i work with will give me 1500 for it. :thumb: since i cant pass up this deal im looking for a 2g turbo. my friend whom i bought the car from got a srt-4. then another friend gets a wrx so i need a turbo. im looking at a 1997 eclipse gs-t with 153K on the clock and power everything with leather. he wants 4995 for it. good deal or keep looking? thanks for the advice.

i just bought a 1990 FWD TSi with 224,000km on it, and its near mint.. runs perfect, no lifter tick, pulls hard. For anyone buying a TSi for the first time I recommend getting an early 1g thats been taken care of (hard to find I know).. the late 2g's and 3g's just kept gaining weight.. my car weighs 1650 lbs, the lightest TSi of any gen you can get :)

btw my sig pic below is my 94 ES, not the 90 tsi.

i bought a 95 tsi AWD 5-speed for $3500. Came with a 190fuel pump, 16g turbo, fully loaded. Only thing i had to do was put new spark plug wires and a new hood... Hood cost $50 used from a fellow DSMtuner, and new plugs for $20.

My friend is looking for an awd first gen dsm and he ran across one around the area that has 120k miles on the chassis and around 50-60k on the motor. It comes with a full turbo back exhaust, manual boost controller, new clutch, kyb's in the back, boost and egt gauges, and a second gen manifold. The seller also says it has a bad speedo and tach, it needs new ecu capacitors, and it runs slightly rich.

Firstly, would raising the boost cause the car to run slightly rich, or could it possibly be caused by the corroding capacitors? Secondly, what do you guys think would be a fair price for this vehicle considering it is in good runnign condition and the rich afr is not due to more complex a problem than suggested? I have a price in mind but i dont want to say for the sake of causing a bias in your feedback.

I appreciate your time, i may not be able to reply for a few days because i will be on buisness but please dont let that dissuade you from replying, i appreciate all opinions. If this is not the appropriate forum to post this in please move it - i have been on this site for years so such a mistake could easily have been made. Again, thank you for your time.

What do you guys think would be a fair price for one? I searched and found a 95 AWD around where I live and the guy is asking 6000 with a second gear not working and he says that the engine burns a qt of oil every 3000 miles. It also has a 150,000 miles on the body and the same stock turbo but the engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago because it was leaking oil?

Fair price is what YOU think is fair. Personally, I wouldn't pay 6k for a 150k vehicle with significant problems. If you look around, you can find a 2g AWD for around 4k. I'd search around a bit more, depending on the car, I'd pay around 5-6k. That is unless it is a mint 99 GSX with like 50k miles. :thumb:

I have no idea where youll find a mint 99 GSX for 6k. A search on autotrader there running about 10k +

Mx5 you can check kbb.com or edmunds.com

This is probably coming from someone who hasn't priced out a dsm in the last 6 months or so. Last year you could pick them up mint for cheap, now all of a sudden the prices have skyrocketed. Not sure why, but the cars actually appreciated in value since last year.
