forget about it, an awd with that many miles you'd probally end paying more for repairs. or another rebuild soon any way. it also depends on where you live. i live in Florida and gsx is going for about 7 to 8k, with about 70k on the motor. your paying 6 , do the math.

my 2g gst cost around 5600 but i tricked the people at the dealership. they posted a spot in the newspaper about an eclipse being 3950. then they also had one on autotrader.com and it was 5600 which was the gst. So i sent an email asking if it was the same car and they said it was. but when i took the email with me they were like the person here who said that messed up but we have to honor it so i got my car for cheap. :thumb:

But look around seriously took me forever sometimes you can find cheap cars. if i was you i would get a 1g awd. They are a little cheaper and i think better. thats my 2 cents.

I know you asked about AWD, but just to give you an idea, I paid $3,150 for my '95 TSi fwd with 132,000 miles on it, mechanically perfect except for the air conditioner. Nice interior, no dents, just sun-faded clear coat.

Not sure if I'd have paid twice that much just to have an awd with more miles on it that burns oil and has a busted tranny.

Well friends this is my car this kid is talkin bout for sure. I also accept best offers for a reason cause the car does have a few problems but he also stated some wrong facts. The car LEAKS about a quart every oil change and i had the engine rebuilt the engine was tired and buring lots of oil and i planned on keeping the car for a long time so i went ahead and rebuilt it but i got a new job so im getting new car basically for a change. Keep in mind this car is clean as hell glossy ass original paint job no rust anywhere either. I've owned the car for 2 years and im bored with it. So i just thought i'd straighten out the fact for ya'll.

Mx5 you can check kbb.com or edmunds.com

Yep, noone can tell you what you are or should be willing to pay. But the above sites are market resarch averages of what people/companies who participate in thier studies pay/recieve. These guides give you a good ball park of what you should expect to pay. Me personaly, I keep looking till I find what I want or willing to settle for. I know I read a thread about this "what's it worth" topic before. I can't find it to link it. Getting sleepy and search skills aren't working as sharply... :boring:

Anyway, Good Luck!

you did mean, LEAKED right? In other words it doesn't anymore since the rebuild? Just though I'd point that out as it would stear me away if it was STILL leaking. :) Does it still have the 7 bolt motor in it? Also, your profile says that you have a 20g, mx5 stated that it still had the stock turbo.

Mx5, make sure you are taking notes. You have to ask these types of questions to know if you are getting a deal you are willing to pay for. It also helps to know the ball park of what is already invested and what you are looking to invest.

My car was $3000 worth of upgrades and 92 Talon AWD to go with it. :)

I currently own a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse N/T, and i'm going to purchase a 1991 talon tsi turbo awd, but the guy said it needs a MAF sensor, and a valve job so it doesn't run. How much will this be to fix and is it worth it ? Just getting you guy's opinion, it'd be my 2nd dsm ! also is there any thing i should know about the 1g's ?!

thanks guys!

Used 1G sensors are easy to come by since nobody wants them. They have horrible airflow and are usually replaced either with a MAS from a 2G or swapped with a GM sensor w/translator. You won't have to pay too much for them.

If it doesn't run because it needs a head job, I'm thinking it snapped a timing belt and the pistons slammed into the valves. You'll have to look at the cost of replacing the valves, valve guides, valve seals on a rebuilt cylinder head, versus just picking up a used one from a part out for around $200.

How much will this be to fix and is it worth it ?
You can find 1g maf for next to nothing. The cost for the valve job depends on how much work you do on your own. Are you pullling the head and just going to pay for the valve job? Or are you going to pay someone to do everything? Also you wanted to know if it will be worth it. You didn't tell us how much you are getting the car for or what kind of shape it is in, so it is hard to say.

Update! Sorry guys i was so vague

mass airflow sensor/cat converter/valve timing

those are the problems, and i'm picking up the car probably for about $1,800

how much would it be if i take it to a shop

and how hard is it to do it myself ?

thanks!

First off that price of $ 1800.00, is very steep. At a reputable shop a complete head and timing job will run you between $900.00-$1200.00. If you do the head/timing yourself, look at about $300.00 to get your head back into shape, $100.00 for a head set, and about $100.00 for timing components. As far as the cat converter, just run a test pipe. The head/timing really isent that difficult, just pick up a haynes manual and print out the vfaq and you will be in good shape. Good luck

I agree. That is pretty high for a car that needs that much work. See if he will sell it for more like $1000.

Hello all.

I'm new to DSM's and would like to say this forum is a plethera of info and is very well laid out!

Anyway I'm looking at a 97 GS-T Spyder. It needs a new top, fender, and front bumper.
The guy told me there is a small exaust leak and that the clutch, master and slave cylinders where replaced 5000 miles ago. The car has 75000 miles on it. He also told me that the turbo was blown and so that was replaced as well with stock. Now its also gonna need a new tire and a battery. Also There is a tear in the drivers leather seat.
Price is $3000 firm no if ands or buts...

So I'm looking probably somewhere around $1300 to bring it up to speed provided there are no unseen engine problems..
My question is...It sounds like it's had a rough life so far..I'm figuring *worst* case replace the engine with a 6 bolt bringing my total in the neighborhood of $2000 in repairs...

Is it worth it?

if i could find a In decent condition gst spyder around where i live for under 3500 i definitely would buy it.As long as you can do the work the bill shouldn't be that much.. Convertable top's probably aren't the cheapest thing to buy but hey.. I would do a compression test on it and also maybe a boost leak test just to see if there are any problems with the vac lines and with the engine.

You cant make that kinda leap of faith without some knowledge of the car. Asking that much either there is something really wrong with it, or the person selling it doesnt know much about cars.

Ok to make a long story short. I have a 95gst but its a beater not in my interest to fix. Ive been dieing for a 97-99 GSX but I dont have 10k, im a freshman in college, plus I want experience before I reach that level. So my goal was to save for about a year or two and buy a 95 gst or gsx and get some experience and have some fun. However...

I found this 95 GSX for 5k the seller says "The car is stock except for a short throw shifter and a K&N intake. It has NEVER been modified beyond that. Known problems are minor: ABS light is on(not sure why, been like that since I got it 3 years ago), rear hatch must be opened from inside lever instead of using the key, there couple rust spots that I wouldn't get fixed because there are virtually impossible to notice."

113k miles
manual

I think this is a good deal that I probably wont find again. ( The reason I say it is a good deal is because this is the cheapest 2g turbo I have found close by) What do you guys think?

Looks good!!! If you plan on keeping the car for a while I would take care of the rust spots before they get serious even if you cant see them. Since they are easier to fix when they are small.

Found this one for 4500 dollars.

You just gotta be patient. Sooner or later one will come your way. I'd say get that white gsx.
