Alright, sounds easy enough. I think I'm going to have a buddy of mine who knows DSMs well come take a look at it. I'm curious to find out what the oil leak is, preferably without removing the engine or a bunch of stuff around the engine bay. He owns a 1G Talon and he's helped build and restore several 1Gs and 2Gs. Can you guys take a guess at what the oil leak might be shown in the pictures? My thought is that it's the valve cover given that I see oil near where it meets the head, and logically it would just run down and get on everything from there, but I don't know my way around a 4G63 or know it's common issues well enough to make that call.

Give me the adress of the shop and I will be there with the Powerstroke this weekend. Sounds like a steal.

p.s. I am serious I would like to have the car.

I am going to buy it, sorry :p
i would say get it, do the timing work and the water pump and just make it nice. i would pay 700 for it. how do you know the waterpump is out? just curious. go for it!
I was told that by the owner and it was backed up by the fact that when you look in the coolant tube at the top of the engine going to the radiator, there is no coolant even when the car is running. Could be a leak, but the water pump theory was backed up by the owners of the garage it's sitting at after they looked at it.

From what i saw in the pictures. It looks like the water built up by the hatch is just caused do to the drain hole being plugged up. ;)

Someone just mentioned that to me on another forum. Where is the plug exactly? Makes me wonder why it's plugged up

In the mid corner there is a hole.. Use compressed air to blow the leaves and dirt out. It will start draining again.
Mine clogs up frequently. So about every 3 car wash's I blow it out with my compressor... Then run water through the drain to clear any smaller stuff stuck to the drain walls...

Its annoying but common...
Just like the crud that builds up under the "thumbnail" spoilers. I cant stand mine, It takes like 10 mins of flushing it to get all the crud out.. :notgood:

Speaking of the spoiler...the one on the car has like no clearcoat left and looks god awful in it's current state. I may repaint it myself a little (it can't look too bad and the car as a whole isn't so great paint-wise) or remove it completely and plug the holes. How is it removed?

before you buy any dsm do a compression test asap. please please this can save you a huge headache later

For the record, I have already decided to buy it and the owner is indeed selling it to me ;)

For the spoiler...
Open the hatch, remove the plastic panel piece on the inside of it. There should be about 3-7 bolts holding it on. (not sure how many are on the talon ROFL)
It'll probably take a 14mm socket to get them off if i had to guess. :thumb:

Come on it's a 2g all wheel drive turbo, it's worth $800.00 as a shell. Around here you cant find an awd shell for less than $2000.00. I'd buy it in a second.

Here is PA turbo DSM's seem to be all over the place, I have seen people have a hard time selling 2g shells for 800 bucks. Either way, seems like a steal.

Yeah, as others have said, if I get this thing and find out there's more than meets the eye and it has a ton of problems or something, I can always part it out. Big deal. I really am hoping to fix the thing up and have fun with it, and potentially use it to get me around in the winter ;)

I am looking at buying a local 2G Eclipse. If that one doesn't go through I will still be in the market for one. It's actually listed in the classifieds on this site, is there anything I should look for to avoid? I don't want to buy a POS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see actually how bad its leaking oil, and where from. Just check all the basic stuff over. Take it for a drive and make sure its shifts good and that its not going to need a clutch right away. Also ask the guy how high hes turned up the boost. Also when the last time the timing belt was changed.

i can tell you that 5400 is a little steep for that car. the engine looks like it was hacked together a little bit. its got a 16g with no way to tune or add more fuel (read stock fuel system), the bov is vented on the stock maf which is a no no. looks like the strut towers are starting to rust from what used to be a tower brace. whoever built this car didnt really follow a set path or at least not a good one when they built it. with some work it could be a pretty nice car but 5400 is a little steep in my opinion for what has been done to the car, and based on what it still needs. also im not sure on this but can somebody shed some light on the drivers side motor mount? it looks like a 1g mount i thought you needed the 2g mount.

He says he hasn't had it over 10lbs. And also, am I going to have any reliability issues? This is going to be my DD and I don't want a worry about the motor going or anything.

Haha it's crazy that you posted this. I was looking to get this same car a while back. Like two months ago. I asked the guy if it was still for sale, and he said yeah but had some people interested, and told me to email back in a week. So I did, and never got a response.

Hey everyone I am in the middle of a purchase for a 1998 GSX with 69 000 on it, its black, 5spd, and very clean. He took his price down to 11 250, but this will still put me 2 grand in debt working all summer to pay taxes of bringing it to canada(bumps my price to over 13 000 depending on our dollar), I want to know if you guys think 10 grand is a reasonable offer, I hope he takes it, I really clued in that I think he is asking too much. At 10 000 i would probably only be a few hundred short after taxes which would be no big deal to me (probably comes to 12 000 or so)
Here is his description: Do you find yourself shopping for a car and read a mile long list of mods that make you think the car was a weeekend racer? Do you click on that low mileage classic only to find out its low mileage due to a new engine? If that's the case, look no further than this low mileage, original engine, clean slate Eclipse! This car is a clean palette for your own style of mods or a reliable vehicle with more style than a lot of today's cars. Of course it has a clean carfax, and this car was owned, driven and maintained by a non-smoking engineer in his mid-30s. In addition to the features listed, this car has power antenna, Homelink garage door opener, remote keyless entry, factory security alarm, and Infinity audio system. The car has had all its fluids replaced, new fuel filter, new front brakes, new KYB AGX shocks all around, and a new battery. The engine and timing belt was professionally serviced at ~57,500 miles. This car does have a few mods done to it. They are: OEM 10 disc CD changer, braided stainless steel clutch line, HKS Turbo Timer, K&N air filter, custom shortened shift lever, and B&M underhood fuel pressure gauge. These all come with the vehicle for no extra charge. I also have some non-installed parts available to go with this car if the buyer wants them. They are: Silver faced gauge cluster from 1999 model year ($50), Brode intake pipe with 1G BOV ($100), 17 inch Enkei RS-5 wheels w/ center caps ($300), JDM/EDM amber taillamps ($450 obo), instrument cluster hood to hold 2 aftermarket gauges ($20), OEM Frt brake pads ($5). Pictures of these parts are available by request. The vehicle is fully ready and available for test drives. I'd prefer not to sell any of the extra parts separately before the vehicle is sold. Try LendingTree.Com for financing; it worked for me! Bring all offers, I am motivated to sell! I need the money for a wedding!
