I just bought off some kid a 92 Elantra. It looks like a Mitsubishi 2.0 and the guy said it has either a 2.0 or a 1.8 in it. I just checked wiki and it says the car came with a 1.6 but the guy told me he thinks it had an actual 2.0 dropped into it. It doesnt matter too much as its the same block as the 4G63. The body is in good condition, it's white. The engine has a blown head gasket and I have a spare head for it too. All for $200. I might be able to part it out and make more than that off it or just sell it as is for $550-$650 (with the head)

Ok I have a 1995 talon tsi fwd with 3 inch exh, fp t-28,intake,maft,255 fp,fpr, bov, fmix, boost controller. I am looking to do some new work this winter but trying to figure out what my money would be best spent on to make it faster yet still reliable, looking either 6 bolt block and clutch or more bolt ons/turbo. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I'd say get some 650's Fuel Injectors and Eprom or Dsmlink something to tune with as above mentioned and you could probably call it a day... Possibly some cams too nice street ones that keep close to stock idle for higher end power..:cool: Good luck!

Oh, BTW how does your car perform with your current mods.. I have pretty much the same setup just without my 3inch Exhaust waiting to be installed, I am curious if you know quarter mile time even if you had to guess or what cars you've kept up with.. thanks..

im pretty happy with how it is now just worried about the whole 7 bolt and keep wanting to make more power, never did the 1/4 being fwd knowing it wouldnt be to good,i was thinking a wideband, got a maft already, but would dsmlink be worth it for 300 range whp? I would need to get an eprom ecu, socketted for dsmlink and the program then tuning it wouldnt be to cheap or does it make a difference?

well, seeing as how you have a 95 talon most of them come with Eprom. check out DSMchips. Send yours out if equipped isn't bad at all for pricing and it will do wonders a few of my friends here have and works great. you wouldnt really need anything else to tune except maybe Dsmlink to use as a logger..

a SAFC would be the cheap route and could get you to 300hp but dsmlink is worth the money and if you decide to upgrade more you'll be able to beacuse you already have dsmlink..crankwalk is overrated

For reliability sake do the 6 Bolt block with your 2g head. While the head is off might as well have it reconditioned and ported.

+1 for DSMLink and a wideband. A good tune will net you some good power.

:talon: OK, i have a question for everybody. I want all of your opinions. Heres the question. If you had a stock 1991 Eagle Talon n/t fwd, and had $500 to put into the car in any way/ways, how would you spend the money and why. I was just curious because i am planning on doing some mods to my car but i dont know what yet. Thanks. :talon:

I dunno what N/T means... I assume you mean N/A but I would probably just sell it and take the money plus the $500 you have and go look for a turbo dsm you can play with. Just my opinion though.

He was saying non turbo. Yeah I would sell that and save up for a turbo AWD DSM. Unless you would like to venture into turboing your what yu have now.

^^ N/T means non-turbo. See the Avatar on left side of the post. Anyone with a N/T DSM will have an "N/T" after thier year/make/model.:)

To the OP. Maintenance. If you just got this car I would recommend changing all the fluids, replace the tires and brakes if needed, and anything else that might need to be fixed or replaced.

Then, and only then, would I start to modify your DSM.

i was thinking. changing the timing belts have to be pretty expensive. can anyone give me an estimate? and i already changed all the fluids, tires, and the brakes which werent that bad at all. also, what would be a cheap way to go with an exhaust?

This is just my 2 cents. If I had $500 and a nicely running N/T 1G, I would sell the 1G and put the 500 towards a turbo model.

If I didn't want to sell it, a nice tuneup would be a good idea. I don't think that modding that car would produce any results that would put a smile on your face unless you ended adding a turbo. Which in that case, you might as well sell it and get a turbo model.

Yes... I know what N/T means but technically it really isn't a N/T... It's a N/A Talon. Just being technical... :/

500 should cover the timing belt. Just depends on the shop unless you do it yourself. I would go with the timing belt first. Is this vehicle mostly just to get around in?

whoa... $500 to change the timing belt? The two shops that we deal with do timing belts ranging between $150 and $250 depending on the engine. Like it has been said several times before... Sell it off and buy something better suiting your needs.

I don't know about an estimate on doing a timing belt; I change my own. I would call some local shops around the area and get quotes. As for the exhaust, you could either get one of these, like the one in the link below. Or you could have a custom one made. Decide how far you want to go now(bolt-on/turbo/nitrous), and go from there. Good luck.

I'm selling my touchscreen head unit from my car cause I decided I dont need it. I will most likely be getting 800+ for it. I was Just wondering what would be the best way to spend that money.

Car is basically stock

-coilovers
-cold air intake
-about to get a sidemount this week
