I would buy a 14b turbo for $100-150 and a manifold from a 1g 5speed $50 ,boost controller $20 and some 1g 5speed injectors for $60.Buy a carbide burr to port the turbo for $ 10.You will pick up some nice hp.C

Disagree here, though it look like we started off thinking the same. Save the extra cash till you can get a 2g mani (or you will be replacing the 1g fairly often):thumb:
 
2g manifold is not needed on a car that wont break the 12's.plus if you only have $300 to spend a 2g manifold will cost you $100 more.C

Note the : save the extra cash. I sure don't run 12s yet, but I have beeen through 3 1g manifolds.
 
How about a downpipe or a S-AFC, you probly wont need to get a fuel pump right now with that turbo unless you are really uping the boost on a 14b if that is what you go. You could prob get a used 2G head at a Junk Yard or something along with a 2G mas of f the same car if it is on it.
 
i'd go with:

free mods-(dejon intake and MBC make some useless)
boost gauge
MBC
K&N filter or dejon intake

you'd probably have almost enough for a 14b, 450 injectors, and manual cams after all that. all this is assuming you want to take the upgrades in small, complete steps.
 
i all ready have a 3" turbo back everything is welded on...including the cat...imma get a test pipe made along with flanges for the cat when i weld the cat off. i'm not sure if i should go with a 14b...thought bout it...but i was like thinkin...of goin bigger later on anywaise....so i think it'd be a waste gettin a 14b now..then upgradin to something bigger later.... by the way i only have 3spds on my tranny....my overdrive is busted....and i duno if i should be boostin more... or just stay where i'm at which is 10psi....

oh i'm from southeast daygo...Paradise hillz area near Plaza Bonita Mall.

i'm gettin my extra o2 sensor housing mod'd to a dump tube and i'm gonna just port my 13g turbo. but yah...i still don't know what my 300 is gonna be goin too....
 
What is your goal with your 91 TSi? Fast street car? Drag car? Autox? I see you don't have any suspension mods listed. Do you autox? Maybe some AGXs? BTW, I'm in the Clairemont/UCSD area myself.

my goal is fast street/road racing car.... yo lets meet up sometime....PM me with your # and i'll try to find more dsm heads in daygo that wanna meet up....i thought of agx's....still too much for me...
 
Have you ever gone onto sd.dsm.org? There's a few DSM peeps that have weekly meets and stuff ... I just signed on!

Well if you want Roadrace ... do you have rims and tires? Falken Azenis sports are in between $65-85 a tire and they will give you a dramatic increase in performance over stock. It's a little more than $300, but they are worth it!

Used AGXs are around $300 ...
 
personally i would begin to do the man conversion
including injectors cams mani and turbo
you will not maximize a 3" exhaust set-up without at least a 14b/16g
but the first step is 450 injectors and manual cams
then either get a 14b and 1g mani or start saving for a 16g
i haven't had a prob with the 1g mani (i ko there much weaker and smaller but they're good till about 12's)

what's the point of buyin a 14b and 450's when and then get a 16g or bigger later? but yah i see where you're goin....i just think it's a waste of money ....goin taht route....i'd rather get a 16g and a 2g manifold wit some 550's at the same time...
 
If you don't already have one, a pocket logger is a decent investment in that range or less. A gtech might also be a thought as they are good for verifying performance increases.

I like to check every mod I do to make sure I am on the right track. IMO, it's worth more in the long run.
 
On a 1996 Talon who's only mods are a K$N Filter and Blitz turbo timer, what would you buy with $500 to increase horsepower?

I've been told that a 3" exhaust would net the most noticable gains, and since those can be found for $300ish, that leaves about $200 left. What would be next? An O2 sensor housing, downpipe or test pipe? And if you don't mind, why would you buy your suggested item (ie, how does it help?).

I would do an upper intercooler pipe and bov and boostcontroller. intercooler pipe cuts down resistance, bov so you can hold more boost and controller so you can turn in up. remember 1 psi is about 6-7 hp. but thats me, remember its all up to you, free mods do wonders too
