Glad to hear good things about underdrive pulleys, it just doesn't seem like many people are running them with the exception of the underdrive crank pulley.

Buddy.... I have much love for 1st gens. My roommate has one. However, I think he and everyone else with a 1st gen will agree that a body kit that would look decent on that car does not exist. As for looks drop it, throw some 17"s on it (not chrome baller rims) and drop in a front mount. That will look more than sick...nothing more nothing less. And PLEASE don't put an after market wing on it!:D
I would personally put most all of that money in the engine.
Good luck bro...

Yeah, and probably quite easily. As I have said before, and others have as well, you should strongly think about what you're gonna do with the engine (because 1g's aren't for show!), and research what it is that you need.

thanx for all the help but i have seen a couple 1st gen's with body kits and wings and #@%#@%#@%#@% and they look good i just want to get a kit b/c i personally think it looks good on them but yea i will be puting most of the money on the engine but i wanna do a couple things to make it look better so....... yea like i kinda wanted to put the g GT2 wing on it and racing strips and 17'' katana tezza rims on maxwheel.com and i do whant to get a ball bearing turbo and intercooler upgrade so i can hope that i will run in the 11's when i am done....

Thanks

i'm sorry, but i think you are a moron for wanting to drop 11g's into a 1st gen t/e/l. i love dsm's as much as the next guy, but the car itself isn't worth more than about 3 grand.

if you're gonna spend 5k, drop about 1000 on an AWD with a blown engine, drop in a JDM for about 2500 (including labor for the install) and spend 1500 in mods. that should be more than enough to get to low 13's/high 12's if you can drive. then sell your fwd and buy a 2nd gen NT for looks/show/stereo.

i'm not trying to rip on you, but spending 4-5 times the value of the car is just not a smart idea, that's throwing a lot of money away that could be spent much more productively.

If it was awd then yes it's possible if you spend right. A fwd is a different story. 5k will surely make a dsm very fast though.

i agree completely. AWD has a HUGE advantage over FWD... it's called TRACTION. i'm trapping at about 103-104mph, but can't pull below a 14.4 because 1)the track near me isn't great for launching, and 2)i don't have slicks. my average 60 foot is around 2.7-2.8. squishy stock suspension doesn't help much either ;) i've given up trying to get good ET's... i just shoot for trap speeds now! (my only mods are a 3" turbo back exhaust with hi flow cat, MBC @ 16psi, and free mods... so less than 1k spent so far) more to come as soon as i get my slicks... they're on their way now!!!!!!!

I just dont understand how some of you guys can trap that high with such minimal mods. I ran my 16g @20 psi and trapped 109 and I got like 3k invested in my mototr. I know I aint no dummy or nuttin, I just dont understand. Maybe its cause its like 100 deg each time I ran, but still. Id like to see one of your timeslips. And how do you get 2.8 60ft, no offense but that is horrible. I know awd's can get low times with good driving and such , but trapping 104 on a 14b@16psi w/a exhasut and cat....Id really like to see your slip!

gimme 5 minutes and i'll scan it. i have a slow ass 26.6 connection here, so it'll take me a minute to upload it to my site. and i got 2.8 60 foots because the track sucks for traction, i don't have slicks, and i spin the tires all the way through 1st and 2nd. street tires and squishy stock suspension sucks. i also have a JDM swapped in, but i was under the impression that it is the exact same motor, aside from the intake manifold which i didn't use. i re-used my old cams too, so that's not different.

www.ukans.edu/~phikaps/eecs128/slip.jpg

i'm on the left, and this slip is a couple weeks old. i was running on the stock exhaust that night. the next week i got a 3" turbo back put on, and this week i was trapping a little higher :) those timeslips are in my car, but it's cold outside and i don't feel like going all the way out there. my favorite of those was a 17.8@102mph... i rolled backwards off the staging light, sorta hesitated for a minute, and just said F-it and went. it redlighted me and started timing me when i rolled back appearantly. funny thing is, i STILL beat the civic Si i was racing to the traps, and i had a 5.6 60 foot :D

exhaust rocks! i can't wait for my next step... supra IC, ic pipes, then on to fuel! weeeeeeeee!

i just cant tell you how jealous I am. I hope I can trap higher next time I go. I doubt that i could tune mine to run 104 traps @ only 16psi...thats so good, how much does your car weigh? What were tha track temps when you ran? Thanks for posting

P.S... i have a FWD which is geared a little better in the top end ;) fwds usually will trap higher than an awd with the same mods... and yes, running in 100 degree weather will slow your times just a BIT. do you ahve an upgraded intercooler or the stocker? i don't think the stock IC will be very efficient at 20psi, hell, it isn't even very efficient at 15-16psi, also which might explain lower traps.

edit: the track temps were around 75 degrees that night, and i run my car with a full interior so i know waht i run everyday on the street. that's with JL subs, 1/2 tank of gas, etc :) i think i got one helluva strong engine for my 1400 bucks!

Yes I do agree. Tell you the truth, my car has very low compression, it was hot ass hell, and I ran it on blown stock suspencion in 100deg heat. Just makes me excited to put in my new motor this weekend! Hopefully Ill trap better times. I have a streetcore (small fmic), 16g full exhaust and 550's is pretty much it. I know ff's trap higher times, but at 16psi that is just soo great.

Don't be a hipocrit dude, I think we all invest more money in our vehicles than we really should.... but hey, that's what we (or atleast I) love!

hey yea i know i am actually thinkin now of trying to find a j-spec engine to drop in to my car then investing money in to that and then yea go mostly for speed does any one know where i can find a site about j-spec engine that i can drop in to my 1990 eagle talon tsi fwd????? if u do please let me know or write me an email at [email protected] thanks a million PEACE

i'm not being a hypocrite. i think spending 11k on a 12 year old car is a waste of money. that is about 3-4 times what the car is actually worth! i'm sorry, but that just isn't a wise decision. sure, i've spent about 4k on my car (including the price of the car AND a jdm engine when mine blew) but i could turn around and sell it for about 4k, so nothing is really lost. if you go and drop 11k into a car, show me one person who is willing to buy a 1st gen DSM for over 10 grand...

talon90:go to www.vfaq.com and click on the link for engine at the top. the top link in the engine section will give a big list of JDM importers. i got mine at soen trade(the same company as soshin usa, but in new jersey). i received the engine 2 days after i ordered it, and it is EXTREMELY clean and runs VERY strong. i'd HIGHLY recommend them to anybody looking for an engine. their phone number is 1-866-364-8726. the only other company i have experinece with is rising sun engines... they SUCK!!! they blew me off for 3 weeks before telling me that they did not have an engine for me, after i had already ordered one they had "in stock". i called soshin the next day, which was a wed, and received the engine on friday :)

Yeah, I see your point.... that is a lot of money to dump into a first gen if you're worried about getting it back. It really doesn't take that much money to make a first gen pretty insane fast. More like $2,500. I agree with purchasing a jdm cyclone engine. But hey, once again it's your car and your money and therefore, your decision...good luck!

thanks i am really looking in to putin in a new engine in my car and i want to put a big 16g or a 18g turbo runing about 17 psi and get a new ic and ic pipeing then get a body kit and and some rims a the gt-2 wing if u want to see the body kit i wanna get it is on http://www.asylumms.com/00web/mit ecl 90 body.htm and it is the aero werks btz body kit in the middle and the rims r here
http://www.wheelmax.com/Wheels/Katana/katana.htm either the t5's or the tezza's what do u think???? if u have any other places i can find a engine for my car thanks

David

I personally am still not a fan of body kits. However, that really won't look bad at all. Go for it dude. Only thing that I would still steer you away from is the wing;) If you do the jdm motor, since it can handle more boost, I'd say go for the 18g.

I came into some money (about a grand) and I was trying to decide what to buy: a turbo or an intercooler: First - I hit fuel cut w/the 14B so w/a larger turbo I'd have some problems there (and either need the TMO/Blaha).. and I don't have $ for an external setup so I'd have to stay 18G or smaller.. Its hard for me to save up a grand so instead of buying a whole bunch of smaller things I figured get one of the bigger things.. I was leaning towards the cooler b/c of the reasons above and I was looking at the complete front mount kit for 900 bucks from Darksideracing.org and was wondering if anyone had installed this? Any problems w/installation and was the quality there? Thanks for any info. Erick

Why not get the TMO to rid yourself of fuel cut? Do that and finish the exhaust. I see only a cat-back in your mod list. Get the downpipe and test pipe/hi-flow cat. You'll have $100-200 left over after that. use it for a tank of gas, some smokes, some booze and a nice dinner with the woman or a friend.

If you have a hard time saving and really want to, send me $25 every week and I will save it for you. When it becomes $1000, I will send it back to you and then you can buy your intercooler. I did this for a friend, drew up a contract and everything, and he was very happy when I handed him $1000.
