The fuel tank must hold pressured vapors?

Just a quick question, when you open the gas tank filler tube cap, you should hear pressured vapors escaping right?

Few months ago the car stopped doing that. Now everytime y unscrew the filler cap it doesn't comeout pressure anymore and sometimes i smell gas on the rea rarea of the car.

Something must be wrong right?

I'm just finishing my fuel upgrades, and one thing I saw mentioned in various places was to cap the vent line that originally went to the canister, but then others said not to cap it, just let it hang (but beware of vapors in the bay). I've since removed all fuel lines and just connected a short bit of hose to that vent and let it hang over the side of the tank to "breathe" more or less. I'm curious to see how much smell will come from it, and if I should cap it.

know this is a old post. but i found the exact same problem and crack in the exact same location today!

I found ...too.... the same problem in the same place...whit the same.

i just told the mechanic to review this piece...!!!!

I had kind of the same problem, but what appears to be is a one way valve on top of tank/blue plastic/. It was supposed to transfer the vapors only one way, but mine was broken and was going IN and OUT. Changed it and the smell and problem disappear.

ok i have the same issue with my 1997 eclipse but the issue is mine has broke off but mine looks different then yours mine is LONG on the bottom with a spring in it and the neck is a bit taller then makes the elbow to the back of the car where can i buy one?
